Gretsch USA Custom 4-piece
12x8 rack tom
14x15 floor tom
16x18 bass drum
14x6 1952 Gretsch Round Badge maple snare (my baby)
14x4.5 Gretsch USA Custom maple snare (not in picture)

For those of you curious about the Catalina Club wrappings, the original kit was from the '70s, and was in bad shape at that point. The bearing edges were redone and the shells were cleaned, and the horribly ugly silver sealer was removed and replaced with clear sealer. It originally looked something like the Vintage Oyster white color, but the old owner preferred the white catalina nitron finish. The stock lugs were replaced with chrome lugs - not sure why, but they look awesome - and the top Gretsch hardware was added.

Excellent thread!

Here's my vintage 4-piece Hayman kit. When I got it about 17 years ago, I didn't know anything about Hayman drums and while it had served me well, I recently thought about trading it in for a vintage Lugwig or Gretsch. That was until someone on here told me that back in the day this was the British equivalent of those classic US brands. Since it was a player's kit and it had gone with me on tour for over 10 years, it was a bit knackered so I gave it a clean and a polish, put on a brand new set of Emperors and now it sounds wonderful. I have been told by an expert that it has appreciated in value too. Not that I would ever get rid of it.

Hayman (1968)
22 x 14 bass drum
13 x 9 rack tom
16 x 16 floor tom
14 x 5 Ludwig Supraphonic snare (1967)

20" Paiste 2002 medium ride
18" Paiste 2002 crash
16" Paiste 2002 crash/ride (black label)
14" Paiste 2002 rock hats

Man that's a Catalina Jazz Club not an USA Custom. It's a Catalina Jazz Club badge.

Here is my custom bebop kit from the Global Drum Company. Its currently in robot mode, but it sounds great acoustically. I usually have Remo Ambassadors or Vintage A's paired with Zildjian K's...

My Peavey 500 series drums, originally was a 5-pc kit. Now is a 4-pc kit and it fits perfect for my style. (22"x14" bass drum, 14"x6.5" snare, 13"x11" rack-tom, 16"x16" floor-tom).

My rackless Gretsch Renown with PDP brass snare, and my home made Frankenstein Bumble Bee Bop Set.

The Bop set is four drums from four different people. The 12 inch tom had to have new hoops since the one with the drum were warped.
I bought the bass drum hoops, claws and T-rods from three different people. The leg mounts on the bass drum used for the spurs and tom holder
came from yet another seller, and the spurs, riser and tom mount being used as a cymbal holder came from MusiciansFriend by way of Dunnett.
I already had the snare. Including myself that's eleven different people, I think.

All if it came from either eBay or drummers on Ghostnote.com. and one seller on Drummerworld.

Here's my nasty old late eighties Ludwig four-piece:

The bass drum was an 18" floor tom. Ugly, yes, but these drums have soul. When I saw them I just knew. They spoke to me somehow. And they sound like Ludwigs!

Nice kit Conrad! I have a soft spot for those K's also. The dark bass drum hoops are a nice touch also.

Thank you Bob. It took some work to get them all together, that was the fun of it. I put RIMS mounts on the toms and used the original Ludwig hardware in conjunction with Gibralter clamps to fly them from the cymbal stands. The bass drum had already been converted when I bought them.

The DW Craviato snare drum matches the rest of the drums. That was handy!

These drums sound really open and singing. They don't sound "modern" at all.

And yes, absolutely, when you run across a K that does it for you then you grab it, no second thoughts.

The snare blends so well that if it wasn't for the lugs and the badge you would never know.

They're sure not rock hats, but in spite of that I've found them to be really versatile. And they have a very nice and pronounced "chick." They also foot-splash beautifully.

The foot splash is the thing that I like most about them. They cut through the mix like none other that I have ever played. The bell is a bit weak though! Can't have everything I guess. The bell on the 14 1/4 Hybrids is a bit better. I may get a pair of them soon.

UPDATE FEB 2 2011
For one I've lost 80lbs.! It's a long story haha.
The bass drum now has calfhide heads
I've temporarily switched the Gold Sparkle snare out for my new (new to me) Champagne Sparkle Gretsch 125yr Anniversary 14x4.5.......and it's a beauty!

1958 Gretsch 4pc

Before and after restoration Okay - I added a snare drum here and there - but essentially it's a 4pc and that's the way I like to play it most of the time.

Here is an old Tama Rockstar I picked up from a recording studio in Dallas earlier this year. I wanted another kit with larger toms and deeper punch to add to the bottom end sound of our 4 piece group whenever we gigged out. This seems to have worked well since 1) it was used and already had scratches and dings and, 2) the price was cheap $275.00. 3) I liked the color. This are the before pictures:

Not sure! Ha! I want to replace the kick hoops with 2" black stained hoops and replace the rims with black 2.3 triple flanged ones and the heads have got to be replaced. Um...not much of "after" pics then are they? Oh well... It sounds loud and proud and is already worn so I won't mind the scratches and dings and spilled beer as long as they don't alter the sound. And the chicks love the color - dark green. And as add-ons I've found a pair of old black rockstar toms 8 x 8 and 10 x 10 to give it a custom "fusion" sound if I want it. And the overall look of the kit will be dark green and black.

you are too kind. when they were rescued they still had original calfskin heads. the floor tom is not gretsch, but is actually a slingerland radio king from the same era. all i have done is put a little polish on the shells and new heads. the snare is my chrome over brass leedy. sizes are 22x16, 13x10, 16x16, and 14x5.5

I can't believe you just found these on the side of the street. What an awsome find, bet they sound pretty good right?
