Default Aquarian SK III

Hello all,
I had an Aquarian SK II and it broke after 2 weeks, so I sent it to Roy and got a SK III in the mail today. I don't want it to break, so I put a pad on it and its making an annoying buzz sound after I hit it (because the pad rubs the coating i'm guessing). Tell me, do you think that I could take off the pad because of the fact that it has a power dot? Thanks.

The SKIII is a pretty thick head, I don't think you should need an impact badge, you should be just fine without it.

Really? I'll take your word for it, but I really don't want another broken bass drum head...

I've been playing fairly hard on a single ply head for over a year now, and I've hardly seen any wear. It's likely that your SKII was just defective. If my clear single ply head can last as long as it has, I'm sure your 2 ply coated head can last at least a year or two.

You'll be fine.

I broke a SK II after three months, but I had only played a few hours a week (because that's about all I can manage.) I'm guessing I had maybe 40 hours of use on it. I posted a thread about it here. Consensus seems to be that these heads will break if you don't use a contact patch.

I don't know if the dot will help on the SK III or not. Guess it's a $40 experiment if you decide not to use one.

They do sound great, though.

Yeah I think i'm not worried any more. I like the head alot, but prefer the power of the SK II. I don't like the fact that I have to put a blanket in my bass drum to get a good sound out of it whereas when I had my SK II my bass was virgin and it sounded powerful and amazing. I will be buying more SK IIs as opposed to IIIs in the future, but right now, this is a great head. Thanks!
