I like it, but that bass drum has to be close to worthless with all that stuff in there...

Nice. But don't go and buy a ZHT Crash! You have two excellent crashes, aybe you wanna upgrade the hats or the ride first.

I believe he is saying he thinks there is a lot of muffling material in the kick drum, and you would not get much sound (tone) out of it.

That's a nice kit, it's cool to see another 14 year old with a PDP kit.

Suggestions...put your ride on the boom stand so it can be over your bass drum, closer to the toms. And then I think it might be more comfortable if you raised your toms up a little bit.

Oh...and welcome to Drummerworld!

If the drums sound the way you like (maybe a short thump) then you are fine as is. A little less muffling will allow you to keep the thump, but add a bit of sustain/tone. It's all personal preference.

Though it does seem like unless you are really trying to keep the volume low, maybe it would be better to pull out about 1/2 of that stuff.

Normally, a small pillow on the inside just touching (on the edge) of the batter side will give you a standard sound without choking the drum too much. The pillow only needs to touch 4-6" of the bottom of the drumhead to damp it.

Or buy yourself a nice cardboard box, it will sound like your bass drum.

Emads are sweet, but I was reffering to the fact that right now, his bass drum probably sounds like a cardboard box.

IMHO, the first thing I would do is take my cymbals out of the sky. I would be straining to reach them.
