That is like the chewbacca of drum sets
Do you have any recordings of it? i need to hear this monster

I'm thinking about getting a 28" myself, are there any big drawbacks?

That is a monster kick you got there. Also monster snare, gotta sound like wardrums or something. I'm also lovin' that finish!

I love it, but I don't think I'm man enough to handle it.

Big kick trivia:

When he was with David Lee Roth, Gregg Bissonette played a pair of 24x32 kicks.

I can try and get some of just the kick for you. For me the draw backs have been obtaining heads. I ordered a aquarian reso from my local pro drum shop, and i have been waiting since 8/18/08. haha they have called aquarian when I was present, and they said "we know about it, we will get it as soon as possible" so I guess if you can wait for heads or have other kicks I have a 26 and a 24 as well then go for it. The sound of the 28 is worth the wait for heads for me. It sounds awesome when played pretty slow and tuned lose, but I usually have it pretty tight for extreme metal, and it cuts through everything.

Thats a tad off. They were 36" long. And he used to stand on them during his solo's.

Here is the scan of his DLR setup. Note the sizes. Page 34 Jan/feb 1989 "Drums" I hate the counterclockwise way they number the drums.

32" long is correct, because they were two 16" deep shells glued together.

16+16=32 :-p

The OP's kit reminds me of Dale Crover of the Melvins.

Makes sense. Though Keller shells come in long tubes that are cut to shell length. I don't know what length the 24" tubes come in now.

Its possible I am wrong. I have the Jan 1987 Modern Drummer w/Gregg on the cover w/that kit. I thought it had the drum sizes in it. Out of curiosity (not like it matters one way or the other) I will look and see if i was wrong.

Looking at the pics from the article I realized you are talking about the blk/wht Pearls from the Skyscraper tour, while I was referring to the crazy looking Yamaha kit from the Eat'em and Smile tour.........................so we could both be right.

I did check my M.D. mag from Jan 1987 for Gregg's bass drum size..............I was wrong.
32" is the size.........................I was almost positive they were 36". I could swear I saw it somewhere. Until I find it somewhere they were 32".

Looks great! I played in a metal band with Evil about 4 years ago. Now that I'm playing drums in a band I insisted on a big kick. Naturally I blame you for that :-D I don't need no steenkin' 22!!

So what of the 26" Ludwig kit? I remember that sounded killer.

I have one of Pearl's Rhythm Traveler kits... I wish I could set it down next to that sucker. David and Goliath.
