Default When to get new reso's?

after a recent cafe' gig, i was putting away my drums and noticed a flimsyness in my resonant heads.

these are the stock reso's (on a tama stagestar) that have coated ambassadors on top.
so my question is, when do you replace your resonant heads, and what reso's would you put under coated ambassadors to acheive a contemporary jazz sound (much like brian blade)

p.s. my toms are tuned a little on the high sound, and im trying to achieve full resonance, regardless of the high tuning

If you have stock reso's, I suggest changing them now. I like to write the date that I changed the heads somewhere on the head. I change mine once a year, but they probably keep their sound longer than that. How much longer is dependent on many factors.

Most people here would say go to a single ply clear reso head, from the brand of your choice. For jazz the only other sane choice may be a thinner weight head, like a clear Remo Diplomat. If you want a warmer sound, you could go coated, but I'd recommend not using any 2 ply head for the reso.
