Default Joe Travers

I'd not heard of him before but recently discovered the Zappa Plays Zappa YouTube clips. Love his playing. The whole band is brilliant, pretty well as good as the original bands. If this is the standard of players coming out of music schools, then the education system is working https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RK2sNoiz0s8

For those who love especially mad arrangements, try Echidna's Arf from 24:37.

If you do not own it, the 2008 release ZAPPA PLAYS ZAPPA DVD set is truly amazing.

Seeing that first tour live in 2006 blew me away. Probably the most amazing display of technical musical ability I've ever seen in any band, and it was grooving too. Everyone was on and I didn't hear a single mistake all night.

I believe Joe Travers was a huge part of that. Cool as a cucumber the whole night. And he manages to have this huge sound and play with ridiculous chops while looking so laid back. It's Dennis-Chambers-esque!

Joe also kills on the "Guitar Therapy Live" DVD with Mr. Mike Keneally.

The fact that Joe manages to be so awesome in some of the most challenging drum chairs in the business is crazy.

I wish I could catch Mr. Travers live with Mike Keneally's band sometime soon. He's one monster of a drummer.
