Default Remo Ambassador For Snare? Any Good?

i have a stock remo dw head on my pdp maple mx and it sounds pretty good but i put a moongel on it because it had a little too much ring, but guitar center is having a sale friday and says that they are selling remo coated ambassodor 14 inch for 8 bucks, is it really going to make a difference if i switch from a dw remo stock head to an ambassador, they are both made by remo and are both single ply, my snare head is in good condition, no dents just alot of stick marks, i played a grestch renown maple with an evans g1 head and had the perfect amount of ring to it, it sounded great, people say g1s are like ambassadors, but anyways is it worth 8 bucks, is it going to sound better?

Remo Ambassador? Nah. Nobody uses those on snares... [/sarcasm]

It is the most commonly used snare head (if coated), and if you like the G1, then it will sound great to you, since they're virtually the same head.

No, if you don't like that ring you're not gonna like another single ply head, they should be almost if not exactly the same.

If you want that dry rock sound, you could try and check out the Evans Genera Dry, very good for that crack.

In my opinion, the best head on the market for snare, kick and toms; and that's batter AND reso heads (oviously not snare-side heads). Anything from warm, tubby bop tunings to low growly rumblings or deep and attack heavy. Also, notably, they tune much better than coated G1s; going higher and lower while retaining a clear note and great feel. You can always muffle it down if needed... you can't un-muffle a 2 ply pre-muffled head like an EC2.
