Default Finger Tape

I've noticed some drummers use tape on their fingers, im guessing its where they develop callouses over time or they gain sores from bad technique but where do they buy this from?

Is it specially made for drummers because im sure i've seen some wrestlers wear it as well? I know some use it to cover rings (i.e wedding) so they dont have to take them off when playing?

I'm sure you'll all mention about bad technique and gloves, but I simply want to try it out as sometimes when i'm playing my callouses get a little sore and I thought this may be a short term solution whilst I develop my technique.

Basically it's just sports tape you can pick up at most sporting goods stores. I've seen guys use the wider stuff then cut it in half length wise for their fingers.

Could be sports tape or just 'tape'. I use sports tape for a couple of fingers when playing rugby - but can be expensive with lots of use but I need to stop my fingers constantly dislocating (old injury) so worth the money. Thought about putting the tape on the sticks instead?

Tape on the sticks would help with grip but not sure it would help protect blisters or calouses

Man, Ive used duct tape for years. You just split it into 1/2" strips and wrap it around the "trouble" spots...Its usually needed when switching from sticks of different dia., or thickness, if you will.

Duct tape strips have worked but is there something better, i.e.(more expensive) that I should try? That doesnt leave that annoying residue on your knuckles?

Ouch Duct tape!!!!(that's gotta hurt)

In sports they use this http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/pr...Id=1234086&cp= before they put the tape on

Then use this http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/pr...ductId=1237545 for taping.

Both of those things you can get individually at almost any sporting goods stores, I've even seen it at play it again sports. The underwrap is available in different colors if you want and you can get the tape in plain white, black or a multitude of other colors.

Use Climbing tape, as opposed to athletic tape. It is much more flexible, rips easily, and sticks like mad. I use it for climbing, and for drumming sometimes. Its cheap and you can get it at your local store that sells climbing gear. http://metoliusclimbing.com/climbingtape.htm

Also, Green_Shoes you mentioned Rugby, does that mean you're from the U.K? (Yes I realise Rugby is played in other countries as well! :p) If not then it doesn't matter but if so then where do you get the tape from?

Yes, i am from the UK! I started getting my tape from a physio i had seen for other problems with my body but then a good (has to be decent) sports shop. Nothing rubbish like sports and soccer but like Christopher Hull (think that's the name). My stuff is white (same as some of the pros) but not really that reusable and dam expensive in the long term. Does wonders for my fingers and now they are alot better.

Regular cloth adhesive tape will do fine. Buy it at the Drug Store or Pharmacy already in the 1/2 inch size.

The underwrap product from Dicks is for taping ankles etc, so that you don't have to shave all of the hair off first.
It may get a bit bulky on your fingers.

Believe it or not...never really hurt at all. It was a bad habit picked up from having to make due with what I had at a gig, after gig, after gig, so on, so forth... I m gonna try these suggestions though, because I switch between my Aheads, 747s' and 5As' every now and then, so its like once a callous forms, its ripped apart by a different size stick. Cool, thanks

The trouble is finding a good sports shop, the best that I get here are the chain ones because I live so near the city, but im sure I can find a little indy shop that'll stock it.

If not then my girlfriend works in a Pharmacy so i'm sure they stock something similar there.

If anyone has any spare time on their hands would you be able to quickly look on ebay.co.uk and post a few links to any they find. I've seen some but im not really sure whether its the right stuff or not :S

Thanks guys

Adam
