Default Another Refinished set

OK, Here is set #3. Formerly the Black and White set (I think the before and after photos are reversed). But it is now a Blue Sparkle. Redone the same way, sanded down. Then 2 coats of heavy black paint were applied followed by Liberal amounts of Blue glitter sparkle. Followed by 5 coats of clear gloss. The shells are Keller and slingerland.
22X16 bass drum (Keller)
9X13 tom (Slingerland)
14X14 FT (Keller)

Cymbals in the pic are 15" zildjian hats Circa 1960's, 18" Zildjian Rock Crash and a 22" Z power ride.

The snare in the pic is a 6.5X13 Yamaha oak Musashi. Didn't quite sound right for the classic rock we're playing so I am using a 6X14 Slingerland chrome for this gig on that set.

Thanks man,
My wife and Mother in Law are trying to get me to refinish sets on the side. I may pick up a couple and see how it goes. :-)

Good luck!,,,, I dont know how easy the process is, but working with drums just sounds like a great way to pass time, hone your skills, and make money in the process. Do you also refinish bearing edges and fix ply-issues?

One of the few things as cool as a new kit, is an old kit that gets a brand new lease on life.

Great job!

Cool, I dont have any splits in my 3 plies *yet*, but I ve been thinking about redoing the edges. These drums are going on 40+/- years now, It might be time. In their defense though, they are Ludwigs ; )

First the set looks great.
Two questions. What did you use to spray the finish on.?
How do the 13 and 14 inch toms sound together?

Good job.

Great job, I know how much work there is in getting a paint job to look like that.

Awesome!

Good job.
I Actually spun the shells around in my hand and poured the glitter on while the paint was very sticky, then after 48 hours applied repeated coats of clear gloss with a loose bristled paint brush. A bit of glitter came off with the first coat of laquer but after that was fairly less messy, lol.

The 13" and 14" actually sound good together, fairly close in pitch but tuned just differently enough to make it sound pretty good.

Thanks for the comments.
