Default Drummer in SF - kit porn

(email link below)

I just moved to San Francisco, and I brought my kits along.

I'm a recording engineer that had his own studio in Atlanta, and I moved to where there is more rock n' roll. I want to get to know the scene here in The City and the Bay Area, so since I have these kits, and as long as a band or studio can let me tag along on their recordings as a drum tech or assistant engineer, they're available for use! This is your chance to use a totally professional, top-drawer kit on your record - just let me hang in the studio and lend a hand! I KNOW how to get great drum sounds, and I can give you examples of my work if you like. I am also a great mixer and I have a mix rig in my apartment, so we can talk about that if you like, too.

I can transport them within the bay area for a few bucks in gas money.

I have 12+ snare drums as well as the kits shown here.

So beyond the plug for my services, I just like showing them off. Here ya go (descriptions under the pic):

Bonham Kit!!

1969-1970 Ludwigs. Silver Sparkle. Sizes (depth x diameter): 14x26, 10x14, 16x16, 16x18. KILLER sounding Bonham kit, and beautiful, too! All the sizes are correct, and it's from the correct era. I keep the right heads on this kit, according to Jeff Ocheltree, Bonham's drum tech. In the right room, this thing sounds like Led Zeppelin IV. What more can I say? All shells are the clear-interior maple shells with reinforcement rings. There's a general consensus that these shells are the best that ludwig ever made. All toms on RIMS mounts, floor toms on floating feet. Kit restored by Paul Montineri.

All shells are the clear-interior shells with reinforcement rings. There's a general consensus that these shells are the best that Ludwig ever made.

1974 Ludwigs. Blue Oyster Pearl.

This is such a great rock kit if you need power and warmth! The sizes allow for a couple of different configurations. Whereas the Bonham kit needs the right room to sound its best, this kit will in any decent-sized tracking room and sound killer. I keep (shown) and unported heads around, and that makes the kick drum looser or tighter, covering almost any rock situation.

Sizes (depth x diameter): 14x24, 9x13, 10x14, 16x16, 16x18 All shells are Ludwig "granitone" paint over the same 3-ply maple shells with reinforcement rings. The 18" floor tom is from 1966, and is white-interior. All toms on RIMS mounts, floor tom on floating feet. Kit restored by Paul Montineri.

2004 Gretsch USA Custom. Satin Black.

This is the last modern maple kit you'll ever need. It has the absolute perfect balance between smack and body on the toms, and the 22x22 kick operates as its own kick tunnel! Put whatever heads you like on it - I keep clear Emperors on there with clear Ambassador resonants - and it will sound great! DOUBLE PEDAL GUYS: this is your drum! I've recorded every type of modern, straight-shelled kit out there, and this was the easiest to mix by a long shot.

These toms can be heard Chris Duarte's "Vantage Point" being played by Jeff Reilly at Prairie Sun recording. Sizes: 22x22 (not a typo!), 8x10, 9x12, 12x14, 14x16.

I just acquired a 14x22 drum for people who don't need the focus of the 22x22. Jazzers can use the 14x22, 10, 14 kit and make it SING!

All toms on RIMS mounts, including floor toms. I changed the Gretsch floor tom mounts to the more secure Pearl mounts.

1969/1970-ish Ludwigs. Silver Sparkle.

Sizes (depth x diameter): 14x22, 8x12, 9x13, 16x16.

Out of all my kits, this has the magic kick drum! It's the most well-rounded kick in the lot, with a big, warm punch, and just the right amount of smack for most applications while retaining the most control.

All shells are the clear-interior shells with reinforcement rings. There's a general consensus that these shells are the best that Ludwig ever made. All toms on RIMS mounts, floor tom on floating feet. Kit restored by Paul Montineri.

Mail me anytime at eardrums@me.com and let's talk about your record!

~Andy

This photo hosting thing is on-again, off-again, so I'm taking the thread down until it works all the time.

Problems solved (at least to me).

PLEASE mail me from the link in the original post if pics go down. I changed hosting to photobucket so it shouldn't happen again.

Thanks,

Oh my.

That is very nice. What a great collection of great drums. I wish you well in your efforts to plug-in to the local Bay Area music scene. It certainly appears you have the experience to match your gear.

Thanks for fixing the photo issue so expeditiously. Good work. Absolutely gorgeous drums and very professional looking pics. Worth the wait.

Nothing has ever made me want to move to the SF bay area so badly. Simply amazing collection and beautiful pictures. You sure know your stuff and I believe you when you say that between these drums you can record some incredible sounding drums. Only thing now is getting this drool off my keyboard...

Those are beautiful kits! I'm so jealous. I've got a 1970 Downbeat, and yes, I concur with the general consensus that these are the best shells that Ludwig ever made. Nice kits!

One thing...Ludwig started using the B/O badges in 1969. I don't know if it's like cars where the 1969 models would come out in late 1968, or the December issue of Modern Drummer coming out in mid-October, but I think your bottom kit would officially be called "1969ish". I take it there's no date stamp inside the shell?

Now THAT'S kit porn at it's finest. Serious eye-candy.

My own drum kit has noticed the twinkle in my eye, and is kicking me in the shins under the table.

I have a bunch of cymbals, but they don't usually come along. I ran a studio for a while, and they tended to get cracked by less-than-subtle players.

Caddywumpus - good catch! The 22" and the 13" are keystone, though the 13" is missing its badge. I went with 68-ish, but 69-ish is just as correct, if not more so, since a handful of shells were still being painted white in early 1968 (IIRC), and these are all clear. Moreover, the B&O badges are more identified with the 70s (especially the ones with the pointy corners).

So we're both right, but you're more right. :)

I'll change it, though. I mean....rock n' roll.....69, right?

I like your taste in kits.

I've got a '69-'70 black oyster pearl, 24, 13, 14, 16 and a '66 silver sparkle 20, 13, 16.

How's it going? Are you still recording in SF?

OH NO.. :l

How do I look at my drums now? Our relationship will never be the same after this.

Dear God, you could've put a pic of Megan Fox naked in between the kits and nobody would've noticed.. Too much beauty to look at.

Now imagine playing them!!!

Ohhhhhh shhh**...
Oops.. sorry, I gotta go. :/

Cheers and congrats! I hope you make it big in SF. ;)
