Default Problem with Gretsch tom holders

Hey folks. My problem is with the suspension system of my Gretsch Catalina Maple kit. The two toms (10" and 12") over the bassdrum are suspended.. I have heard plenty of nice things about this and in theory it's great, but... Whenever I hit hard on these drums (not Hulk type hard) they tend to vibrate the drum in such a way so they come in contact with the metal screws of the suspension ring (or whatever you call it) that it hangs on. This makes metallic noise, which is driving me mad.

I have tried placing a piece of fabric between the two elements in discussion, and while this works to some degree, I don't feel it is a satisfactory solution. Maybe I am missing something...

Anyone experienced something similar and/or have any suggestions?
