I know our mostly male group do a lot of talking about women drummers, but I don't think I've ever seen this forum discuss Sherrie Maricle. I got interested in her music music after being introduced to her lead trumpet player Liesel Whitaker, who used to play trumpet with my father. She's very educated, a fine composer, great bandleader and swings on drums like crazy.
This is her leading her all woman big band DIVA in a fairly recent concert. Pt. 2 is the drum solo, but listen to the whole thing in sequence. From the big band side of it, I really respect her playing.
