Default Roger Taylor new kits

Hi

Not sure if this has been mentioned here yet (did a search but found nothing)
Roger Taylor of Queen has switched from his classic Ludwid set up on the new tour to two DW sets

Check out the shots (hopefully now attached!)

One DW Maple Kit and one DW Black + Gold kit

A couple more shots... during the middle of the set he is doing a drum solo while the roadie builds a kit (the black one) around him...very cool..

Wow, nice set-ups.
But, funny really, Roger's been with Ludwig forever it seems.
Wonder why the switch?

Not sure, there was talk of him doing an interview with one of the drumming mags in the UK, but nothing has surfaced yet. He is still using the Ludwig maple snare on the main kit, and it seems like he recorded the new album with a mixture of DW and Ludwig drums.

I see he is still listed as a Ludwig artist and not yet as as DW artist on there website so who knows if he is now an official endorser or not.

I though Roger Taylor was still using Sleishman drums. He changed from Ludwig a few years ago, from what I know.

This is a quote from the Sleishman Site
"Round, crisp, true, revolutionary - I'm converted!"

Rogers kit of choice:

Toms - 10" x 8" , 12" x 9" , 13"x 11", 14" x 14", 16" x 16", 18" x 16".

Bass Drum - 24" x 18"

Snare - 14" x 7"

Color: Clear Maple
Roger Taylor, drummer and backing vocalist in one of the worlds most influential rock bands Queen. He has a very "big" unique sound and is known for his brilliant drum parts that are intrinsic to the grand orchesration of Queen’s music.

Roger has been playing Sleishman since 1993 and loves the full sound our toms and bass drums give him. Roger can be heard playing Sleishman on Queen’s ‘Made In Heaven’ album.

In 2003/04, we also supplied a full drum kit to the Australian production of the smash hit musical by Queen and Ben Elton, ‘We Will Rock You’. Roger and Brian May came out for the launches in both Melbourne and Sydney. "

I didn't know he had changed drum companies again.

Arggghhhh!! I just don't think of RT as anything but a Ludwig player. This makes me feel betrayed in a weird way.

Does Roger still spit (straight up) while he plays? I thought that was a bit strange but loved the show back in 1982.

One would think the acoustics on top of Buckingham Palace would be top notch.
Did you see them play on the Palace roof?
How cheesy can it get.
How very not rock & roll. .....I'll pass thanks.

He used the bass drum of that kit but nothing else, the toms came out for one outing but after that it was just the bass drum and ludwig toms till now.

I believe he does... hence the reason his roadie is now to one side of him instead of behind!!!

Well to be fair, Roger was not on the roof, just Brian, but hey, when her maj calls what do you do when you are called Queen?

Wow...he'd been a Ludwig guy for years.

Maybe he just needed a change.

I notice that his Black kit has no re-rings.

To ME, those shells from DW sound waaaay better than the 'regular' collectors shells.

That bass player in the couple pics plays (or played) with BOC with Bobby Rondinelli.
Nice guy, but I can't recall his name right now.

Good to see them still out and playing.

Love the new DW's... including the main green kit currently being used on tour.

Also, he used a black Yamaha kit in the mid 80's.

I posted the new kits on Wikipedia twice, and both times someone changed it back to the Ludwig one that was on there originally, someone clearly cannot accept the truth

I can accept Roger Taylor switching kits, but Queen without Freddie Mercury? That's just wrong.

I was never a big Queen fan, my loss, but after watching a few documentaries on the group I grew to like them alot, and I have to say the same thing about Freddie. I'm sure they sound great but man...

Sorry about my late arrival.
I noticed in this thread a few comments about Roger Taylor being a long time user of Ludwig kits over the years, until he changed to Sleishman and DW.
What no one seems to have noticed is his use of a Yamaha kit in 1986.
It was a Black kit, and although the drum sizes appeared smaller the lay out of the kit seemed to follow closely that of the Ludwig kit he used two years earlier.

I have a concert of theirs in Budapest with the Black Yamaha kit.

I still love those Roto-toms he uses over the floor toms.

DW pays their top endorsers in addition to free gear.
Ludwig doesn't pay their endorsers but provides free gear to A level Endorsers.

This must be a recent thing? I thought Buddy Rich was commanding some 60K a year from Ludwig when the Beatles hit big and Bill Ludwig didn't want to meet Ringo because he thought he'd ask for more.

Buddy and Ringo were major exceptions. Todd Trent (former artist relations) told me this .

Not sure if Mr Taylor falls into this group. He has always had some kind of Queen related logo or picture on his Bass Drum skin with no sign of a manufacture's logo.
So no obvious advert for the manufacturer.
I no the same can be said about Neil Peart, but you only have to look at a Rush concert program to read detailed info about his latest kit and cymbals for that matter.
Since the mid 90's RT has had a green DW kit in his studio. His son also plays a DW kit.

I'm not so sure there's really any big deal about having an endorsement when you're at that level anyway. Stewart Copeland said it great when he stated something to the effect that's he's a millionaire and could buy whatever he wants many times over, but is still so impressed with Tama (and not a custom Tama, either). Roger Taylor could be in the same predicament, eh?

Friends of mine who get some kind of endorsement deal usually means they get a percentage off of the retail price in exchange for being on the manufacturer's artist roster, which I guess is somewhat prestigious. And certainly getting support while you're out on the road is cool. But even at my level (big nobody able to buy my own stuff that doesn't really play out much either) I think I'd rather be able to use whatever I want.
