Sonor SQ2 - 18" bass drum?

I'm going to buy an SQ2, just waiting for results of a price match. I want an 18" by 18" bass drum for a better response off the skin but since it's a thick shell i don't loose the sound of it. Any thoughts?
Still time to change, maybe a 20" 18"?
Any thoughts are welcome.
