Default Aquarian New Orleans Special Snare Head????

Hello,

My Yamaha 14 x 7 brass nouveau came in today. I am very excited to get home.

I already have a 42 wire snare to put on it.

The head on the drum is an Aquarian New Orleans Special that I found out is a clear single ply head with powerdot coatings on part of it.

Does anyone have experience with the New Orleans head? I have a near new Genera Dry at home that I could put on her.

If you have had any experience with the New Orleans head, what did you think of it?

Thanks again my friends.

Mike

Dont have much experience with it but why dont u try tuning it up to your preference and taking a listen...if u dont like it slap on the genera and see if u like that better...cant hurt to test out both on the snare to see what u like

I used one once on a snare similar to yours. I was trying to get a deep and wet sound, and could never get a tone I liked out of the NOS Aquarian. I had this cutting but dull sound with far less tone that anyone should desire. I'll stick to emporors and ambassidors.

I tried one of those when they came out, and it was OK, but the Carmine Appice sig head (with the underlay ring peeled off--that sticker stuff for the "rings" comes off easy) sounded better.

It was more responsive than the NOS, and not as flat sounding because the dot was a bit smaller.

The CA dot is still pretty big, so it's kind of the same idea, just a little more open in the right frequencies, not the crappy high annoying ring.

That Aquarian Hi-Performance head sounds really good too.

It's got a lot of that Power Dot stuff on it, but I was amazed at how good that head sounded.

A lot nicer than an Emp X head for the durability thing.

Whatever you use, I can't imagine that drum sounding "bad' though.

Have fun with it Lucky!
