I am unsure if you are talking about Dyno Beats or K/Z's. Dyno Beats have both a Dyno top and a Dyno bottom. K/Z's have a K top and a Dyno bottom.
Which pair are you talking about? I play a pair of 14" K/Z's and absolutely love them. Lots of people recommend the 13" K/Z's. They are bright and very controllable but i prefer the darker sound of 14" K/Z's. They are my main hi hats. I play alot of Jazz and fusion and they work well in those situations but are a bit chunky sounding in rock situations. Dyno Beats work very well for rock but i found them to be a bit much for Jazz.

He plays Dyno Beat Hi hats. Not the K/Z's.
The Dyno Beats are part of the Z Custom line. I think you are getting confused because the K/Z's have a Z Custom Dyno beat bottom and a K top.

I was talking k/z combination, I made the mistake because most instrument websites list them as K/Z dyno beat hi hats, i guess the real name is "special k/z hi hats"

That's right. The K/Z's are great hats. Like i said earlier, i prefer ther darker 14" hats. I've played the same pair for about 10 years now.

I just bought the K/z 13" hats, wow, they sound really great (especially since in upgraded from b8's). They really match my k ride and strangely, my aax stage crash(?). I was a bit supprised about how loud they were because of the Z bottom, but overall they are great. + I only paid 20$ for them after selling a bunch of my old cymbals!

Depends what style of music you want them for. They seem very versatile.
I have used a 13" set extensively in a small combo jazz setting at jam nights, and they work very well. Very well indeed. Not too bright, not too quiet. Very nice. My teacher also uses a 14" set in a classic rock band which I've seen live and they sounded brilliant. I think that gives you an idea of their versatility. Lloyd. |

I have been slightly obsessed the the K/Z hats. I love the sound of the recordings and really want a pair to contrast my current hats but I have never got to play them in person. I'm split on getting 13" or 14" too. One thing I never get is Zildjian say '13" highly recommended.' on their website. Seems odd and a company would openly go all out and favour the 13"s! |
