Default Changing tom resonant (bottom) heads, how often do you do it?

I just wanted to see how the rest of you feel about this. I personally tune my reso heads fairly loose to produce decay where the pitch drops. They seem to last forever since the really don't get abused in anyway.

Ideally, I would change them every year or so...but it's expensive! Realistically, I change them when I notice them starting to lose "the magic", which ends up being about every 3-4 years.

At least every year. Some times more often.

Reso heads wear out, just not as fast as batters. They are constantly vibrating, and even if they weren't they would degrade from age alone.

I replace mine every two batter head changes. The reso heads' contribution to how your drums sound is under-appreciated--if you haven't changed out your resos in a long time you may be surprised how much a difference new ones can make.

Here's a Bob Gatzen video with everything you ever wanted to know about resos.
