Default My new PDP 805! It's red and black!

Hey guys...I'm new here, and I just got my new drumset, a PDP 805 Series with Red/Black Shells and Hardware. My cymbals are Paiste PST 3s, sizes 14/16/20. I also have a Zildjian ZXT 10" Flash Splash, a Meinl Cowbell, and an LP cowblock. There's also a tambourine that's not pictured.

Do you guys have any suggestions as far as affordable add-ons, changes in setup, etc? Thanks!

Specs:

20" x 18" bass drum
12" x 8" rack tom
14" x 12" and 16" x 12" floor toms
7" x 13" snare drum
Hardware
HH800 Hi-Hat
CB800 Boom Stand
CS800 Straight Stand
SS800 Snare Stand
SP450 Single Pedal
Paiste PST 3 14/16/20 Cymbals
Zildjian ZXT 10" Flash Splash

the pst3s for what theyre worth arent bad.. just as long as you get better gear as time goes on youll be alright

but i wouldnd stick with those brass cymbals forevs

i like the setup but maybe it would be more comfortable if you moved your rack tom a little closer to your kick?

Sweet! I also own PDP drums. MX series. I'm not a fan of the colored hardware but hey if you like it thats what matters. I would take a few more pics of your set so we can see the whole thing.

I would try and move the rack tom a little to the right so its over your bass drum a little. Then you could make that splash maybe in an easier reach.

Are you sure your not playing on the resonant stock heads? Last time i checked the DW/Pacific stock head had a coated ring around the outside. Those were pretty decent for a stock head.

I would, but I hate how the bass drum is so high. I like the tom low, and the bass gets in the way of that.

And yeah, I'm definitely saving up for some new cymbals, not to replace, but to add on.

I just posted the specs under the drum kit picture...and I'm just looking for various add-ons, like new heads (right now I have stock) and cymbals.

Sure, I'll take some more pics, but there's not really much more to see.

And the problem with the tom is that I like it low, and the really high bass drum gets in the way. Hmmm...

Good stuff, friend! I think if you messed around, your drum sizes would allow you to push that rack to the right a bit and still keep it as low as you like. Then again, if it's comfortable for you, then more power to ya!

Yes, but I now changed the placement of the crash cymbal, which makes it impossible to do that. Plus, it's more comfortable this way. I really wish I had two rack toms, because my floor tom's legs are super short. Plus, how am I supposed to color match new toms? Haha

It should sound much better too, now that you're playing on the batter head.

No, I totally agree with you. But if you hear me play it, I don't think you'll agree.

I'm really liking the PDPs people are posting recently. That hardware/drum combo looks the nuts!

It's crazy, what PDP offers, like white/white, blue/orange, CHECKERED, etc. But I don't know if they sacrifice quality of sound for color.

Lemme make a new video real quick. I have one on youtube.com/funnyz, titled New Drumset, but it kinda sucks.

Yeah, they look amazing, and many people have complimented me on them, however, for drumming, they're just OK. It's not noise-canceling, so you have to turn up the volume pretty loud to hear the music. But if your just using them to save your ears, then that'll work, because they do block out a lot of noise.

Your enthusiasm is obvious and very refreshing. I personally enjoy seeing you share your excitement. I have two young boys at home so actually playing my drums is more rare than I'd like, but sometimes I just sit on my throne and gaze, and tinker, and adjust, and gaze...so fun.

It's also clear that you're just starting out with your own gear. My advice is to slow down. I know it's hard to resist the urge to get more gear asap and add on. You have good drums that can last you a very long time. Have fun trying new head combinations and tweaking the placement of your gear so everything is comfortable. Rather than just add new cymbals, I would recommend learning and practicing on the brass pst's while you save up for more musical sounding bronze. It won't be long till you'll want to upgrade the pst's, especially once they're side by side with bronze cymbals. You will want to replace them with cymbals that you don't want to upgrade. Good quality will always outshine (and outsound) good quantity. Have fun and heed the advice of someone who was much like you when I started out (which was only 3 years ago). I started with the performance pack of B8Pros and added the effects pack to get more cymbals. I regretted it every minute until I slowly replaced each one.

Yeah, that's a good idea. I mean, I've had a drumset before this, so it's not my first, but the one I had was a crappy Tama Stagestar, with EXTREMELY crappy cymbals (sheets of metal). And I've been playing for about 6 or 7 years. But I definitely need some new heads, even if I should wait to get new cymbals. Really, I would love some Instanbuls or Paiste 2oo2 or Ks or Xplosions (or those black Paistes...those are awesome), but too much, so buying cymbal by cymbal is a good choice, you're right.

Thanks for the help! I really appreciate.

APX are essentially pro level B8 cymbals. They are very bright and very unique cymbals. I would recommend toting one or two to a cymbal shop to see how they blend (or don't blend, depending what you're looking for) with any other prospective cymbals. Keep us informed on your process. You can start a thread in this forum or the "Cymbals" forum to solicit more widespread advice. Welcome to Drummerworld.

@805Drummer - Let's see some more pics when you can; I'm interested in seeing the setup now that you've tweaked a little after some earlier advice.

Sorry for the crappy cellphone pic, but it's big enough right?

Got it $300 (CAD) cheaper cuz it was lightly used and sold to Long & McQuade, where I grabbed it =D

I'm a sort-of noob drummer (started in February) so this might be a dumb question but are the APX's intermediate or pro or what?

I'm looking for a really explosive crash, or maybe a chinese? and I'll probably find a cheap little splash. I would be happy with that I think. Feedback?? /=|

to answer, they are like B8's. read TenPastTen's post...

Wow, that white kit is pretty cool, all it needs is a set of rude whites, Travis Barker signature sticks, and coated heads bottom and top, and non-scuff shoes :p

I know it's been a while since I've posted, but I have an update.

I only have $100, but I was looking on Craigslist, and this guy is selling a bunch of drums floor toms, rack toms, bass drums, a snare, etc) that he found on the side of the street in his neighborhood (aka, the trash). I'm buying some of them tomorrow, for less than $100. He had a picture, and said that most of them were Remo and Yamaha brand, and someone already took the Rogers ones.

So, yeah. Wish me luck! My current bass drum is so big, I'm selling it. And I've been playing on an 18" floor tom. I can't wait to see if this new thing works out!

move the splash cymbal and put the paiste ps3 there and turn your tom around and rack it to the right of the stand, then move your floor tom away so its not hitting your leg when you kick lol

They're supposed to be professional cymbals for people who play loud music and want extremely cutting, thrashy cymbals. Watch yourself, these cymbals go to eleven ;) I played one in a store, a splash, and it's bright and cutting like a B8 indeed but not as shimmery, like TenPastTen said.
