Sweet setup!
Can you explain why you use this setup?

Where did you get these and if you don't mind how much did they cost?

Are they the same ones from this thread
http://www.drummerworld.com/forums/s...ad.php?t=38933

This kit would look great with a pearl ICON rack and the toms in a 'normal' order.

Thank you!
Yes, it's the very same drumkit! Only now with a twist of... Well, me! :D
Well, the setup is a work in progress. I've always loved the standard 10", 12" and 14" setup, but I also like 8", 10" and 14" for a change. Then I sat down and tried to find a way of having the standard 10, 12 and 14 setup with the 8" placed in. I just wasn't comfortable with the 8" too far to the left, so therefore I placed it between the 12" and the 14". That's the good thing about having shallow toms - great setup possibilities! I'll keep on playing and see if I'll stick with the setup! :)

About the cost - I traded kits with a guy, so he got my Yamaha RC and I got his MMX! :)

Super nice drums, Congrats! All the masters i see dont have full finished hoops (inside is natural), which i hate, but this looks awesome! Is it a wrap or laquer?

Sweet. So now that you've played both, which do you like better; birch(rc) or maple(mmx)?

Beautiful, beautiful kit my friend.

Love the finish. Nothing quite like a beautiful sparkle!

Kit looks great and I love the wood hoops on the snare. Nice clean set up and your drum room is super cool you must be in there all day!

Thank you for the kind words, my friends! :)
About birch vs. maple - I love them both! Hehe! The RC had a very warm and controlled sound, and I really liked that. The new MMX has a more resonant sound, a bit more attack/punch (due to the sizes) and they're also very warm. I really like the tuning possibilities with the MMX - I could get a REALLY cool latin, almost timbale sound out of the 10" tom, and at the same time I could get a cool and low-end sound out of it!
I can't wait to get some new heads for it - what would you guys suggest? I'm going Evans (due to durability!), so maybe some G2's over G1's... I'm not sure!
The sound I want is a warm, not too high/not too low with good sustain...!

...very nice.

I also like your tom placement. If I were to play a larger kit with more rack toms, I would probably set them up in a similar fashion. It makes sense, as you have access to them all, but easier access to the ones that you will likely use the most.

Onc again, very nice kit, I hope that you get many years worth of gigs and enjoyment out of them.

Amazing finish, SWEET RIDE!!! It really looks amazing and i bet is sounds great too.

What do the wood hoops do to the sound of your snare?(compared to metal hoops of course)

Nice drums! I like the setup, and you can't beat sparkle lacquers. Interesting sizes, too. But if you traded kits with someone, then you didn't pick the sizes, did you?

Yes, the ride is THE best ride I've ever tried. It's so "me". It's the K Custom left side ride (Peter Erskine signature), it's got a very dry sound, it's pretty thin and it's got 3 rivets in it. Beautiful, just beautiful! :)

And about the trade - no, I didn't order the sizes or anything, but the sizes of the kit was one of the main reasons why I wanted to do the trade. I had a Yamaha RC (Really great kits!), but it had power-sizes toms, and I really wanted shallower toms, so... Yeah! I did the trade, and I'm very happy!

Sorry, forgot to comment about the woodhoops... Well, it makes the stick-clicks and rimshots sound much better (clearer stick-clicks, MEAN rimshots), and it makes the snare look HOT! :)

I see groove essentials, nice nice.

Cool kit, The sparkle finish is pretty cool - and I don't say that about sparkle finishes too often.

How do you find tuning the rack toms with them all being the same depth?

It's not a big problem... The only thing I have to get used to is the feel/response of the 10" and 12" - They have a lot more rebound (due to the shallow size), and I'm used to powersized toms (10" x 10", 12" x 10") with much less rebound. You gotta love rebound, by all means, but it's just something to get used to, that's all!

Those Pearls are awesome looking. I know the RCs are venerated in drumming circles, but I hate the full length lugs. No knock on the sound which is, of course, incredible. In my opinion, split lugs help show off the finish or wrap or whatever; in your case a killer sparkle lacquer!.

Congrats on being happy with the new Pearls. It's obvious you're enjoying playing around with set ups. Very cool.

ZorLee
Simple question (but I don't know, & could not find the answer) regarding Pearl drums.

Can you please tell me the difference between Pearl MRX & MMX?

I'm thinking of changing a kit & if I do I may try Pearl.
Thanks.

Pearl Masters MRX drums are 6 ply maple drums.
Pearl Masters MMX drums are 4 ply maple drums with reinforcement-rings! :)

If you want warm heads, go with clear EC2's.

I love the finish on your kit! I also play a MMX. Its the best kit I ever owned/played and after playing over three decades I have heard a few kits.
