Cool! It has the blue/olive badges. With a little TLC and some bottom heads and rims you'll have a great set of drums!!

Those look like some highly desirable 3-ply Ludwigs. The bass drum is a keystone badged drum, so it is probably a 60's drum. Check for re-rings on the interiors, clear or painted interiors, and see if the guy has the hoops and tension rods for the bottoms. Also could be some nice Zildjians too.

I hope he's not selling off his dad's crutches too. That would be cruel.

Well he told me that he will take $800 for them and i said no way. Then he asked how much do you think they are worth and i told him $250 maybe $300 with the bottom hoops but i still would have to look at the cymbals to see if its worth it.

If they are 3-ply Ludwigs, they are worth more than $300, for sure. Especially if those are old Zildjians.

Um, yeah...that's an understatement.

In my neck of the woods, the kit itself, in that condition, would be sold for more than $800. That's even considering the economy...

Ludwig 6 ply shells came out in 76, so if those are 71's, they are indeed 3 ply shells. He probably won't get $800 for them, unless he has some "very cool" cymbals. On the other hand $300 is a totally "lowball" figure. Hoops are no big deal, especially if you're a player. A triple flange is a triple flange is a triple flange. If you get AR about having to have all Ludwig OEM parts, well, that's another game. Costs more to play it, but everything gets sold on eBay, you just have to wait for it. I'd say $500. Some elbow grease (cleaning), maybe $100 in parts, and new heads. You'll have a kit that's way better than any $800 GC. kit.

Well i went to see the kit this weekend it would need alot of work to restore it. The wrap was in pretty good shape. Just needs some cleaning. All the plating on the hardware and lugs were pitted and in need of rechroming. It had a matching snare with no throwoff or snares. The tom mount was painted black with a rattle can. The ride cymbal was an old zildjian but the crash and hats had no markings so i couldn't tell. It turns out that this set and all the other gear was stored in an outside shed behind the fathers house for the last 7 years so i don't know how good any of it is. I offered him $500 and he turned it down so needless to say i walked.

I would have done the same thing. If it will take too much restoration, it's not worth it. I had the opportunity to buy a Gretsch round badge (20/13/16/14x5 and 1952) for $700. You'd never understand why I turned it down unless you closely examined it yourself...

The cymbals had no markings? You mean they had no stamps? I find that very hard to believe. Cymbals from pre-1977 had no ink, but they all had stamps.
