lately i have switched to the Pro Mark Japanese Oak 7A's -- great sticks, great feel -- unfortunately i have to go through the entire batch at guitar center just to find 4 that are not warped. I guess straight sicks are not a top priority at pro mark. Even so, i still like them a lot.

Quite recently I picked up some Promark 747 Rock Nylon tip shira kashi oak sticks. I loved the feel of the hickory 747s, but they were too light for my taste. The Japanese oak stick have the same feel, but with the weight I like. I love the finish as well, they never slip out of my hands.

I use Zildjian's General Orchestral sticks. They're light (they're maple) and thick, which keeps my hands from gripping too tightly. The bead is thick and round, so I get a meaty tone and a consistent ping from my ride.

I use vic firth 5a wood tips.

Just because they're the basics doesn't make them bad.

The most awsome sticks i've played so far, for me are the Vic Firth Jack DeJohnette Signatures. I like both the white wood tipped ones and the green nylons. They're the most versatile sticks I've tried, simply because they are designed with jazz players in mind - DeJohnette, like:)) - but the paint makes them heavier than a natural finish pair of sticks, which makes them a lot better for rock stuff than a similar natural finish counterpart.
And also, what I discovered was that the paint keeps the wood together kind of better, it just makes them break a lot harder. I've broken the Rock Vic Firth model faster than the SDJ (true, back then I was fighting my technique:P, but anyways). And for a truly violent sound you can rely on playing them reversed, like Vinnie Paul does (with his Rock model:))).

Vater Sugar Maple 5A wood tips - so light and lovely. My perfect sticks but took me 2 years to find them. They break easier but also quite cheap so winner.

Up until 1995 I used pro mark 5a's or 747's. I tried vic firth 5b's (nylon tips) and switched. I also like the 8-packs of these:

I have to say I just ordered two sets each of Regal Tip 7A wide, and Jazz Wide series sticks and find the Jazz model perfect for what I do. The 7A are just a little too short but nice for just jazzy situations. I have Regal Tip 5A which I love but these Jazz series perfect.

Vic Firth's (Harvey Mason wood tip) model are really nice. Not too heavy, not too light. Light enough for jazz but if you need to crank it up a bit, no problem. Perfect length for me as well (15 and 3/4 Inches). Check em' out.

I use a bunch of different sticks (all Pro Mark) but I like the Paul Wertico Sig. stick best. It's an 808 made from hickory, rounder tip, and 16" in length. It's very similar to the Ian Paice model but the Paice's are 1/8" longer and I THINK they are not quite as round on the tip. I'm going off pics because my local store doesn't have the Paice's in stock so maybe the tips are the same.

If I was ever blessed enough to have my own Signature stick, I would take the Pro Mark Ed Shaughnessy sticks (707, oak, round tip, 16 1/4") and make them into 808's, either oak or hickory. Ed's sticks are AWESOME and have the best tips I've ever played, but for the size of my hands, not quite thick enough (especially on harder/louder songs).

Vic Firth Peter Erskine signature model. Long, skinny, mildly heavy, and with a ballin' bead on the end that's sure to impress. Truly, the only way to go.

I love Vic Firth hickory sticks. I was going from 5A to 5B, but always wanting a different tip. I recently picked up Zorros' signature stick frim VF.
Basically a 5A withe a barrel tip. Works for all types of music for me.
I'm happy.

Vater Manhattan 7A, with nylon tips.

I just love the thickness and length of this stick! Also, I tend to break stick tips (and even the slightest tip chipping affects sound, especially on the ride!) far before I break anything else, so I also love the nylon tips.

Pro-Mark Japan Oak 747's. Basically a 5a with a heavier end. I have never liked hickory sticks, to me, the wood is so dry, dense, and light, that it will crack easily, and a well placed relitivly hard hit on a rim will break a hickory stick right down the shaft. Japan Oak, is a softer, heavier, and a little less dense. They sort of shave down rather than just breaking when the time is time. But anyways, thats all just preference.

I have been using the Jack DeJohnette signature sticks from Vic Firth and they are AWESOME just slightly longer than a 5A and has a great feel.I can use them for everything from fusion to grrrrrrindcore.
If I'm playing really up-tempo samba or jazz i use the Vater 8A wood tip.
