Vic Firth 55A. I think it's heavier than a 5A but lighter than a 5B or something like that.

At the start of this year i bought my first pair of Vater Los Angeles 5A and could not be happier with them. there quite short so it feels im playing alot faster and i love it.

P.S. has anyone ever used the Vater Nude series sticks? it seems you cant get them in Perth or where i live so ive never actually seen them and i would really like to try them. if anyone has used them tell me what they were like for you.

I recently moved away from the Ahead Tommy Lee concert sticks and moved to the Sean Kinney Vater signatures. They are 16.75 inches long and are .620 width. They are 'nude' so they do not slip. Very nice, heavy, solid sticks.

I also use Bob Rock Promark signature stick which is .650 in width buy 17.5 inches long. Very heavy, but they feel good.

The lighter the stick, the harder it seems to be for me to play. LOL. It must be my crappy technique.

But I don't think I will move back to the Ahead sticks.

Vic Firth 5A Nylon Tip is my weapon of choice.

I tried one of those Zildjian anti-vibe sticks the other day though and I immediately noticed a difference in the stick vibration... I'll have to pick some of those up.

I've tried with Promark 5a, 2a, 5b, 2b; Ahead 5a, Xl Rock Studio, And thomas lang Vic firth Signature Stick

i personally prefer the thomas Lang Stick ( quite big ) it has a nice wood tip and the add a nice punch to my drumming. ( and the sticks have a nice white laquer that looks great :D )

Ahead makes good sticks but they are quite heavy sticks (Xl rock is heavier than lang's stick ) But the feel and rebound is awesome.

you can try with lang's stick for me it's the best in this moment.

Ive been digging the TX420N (mike portnoy signature by Pro mark). I love the feel, bounce, weight, diameter...practiclly everything, except the nylon tip. Any one know if there thinking of making the same stick with a wood tip? that would be amazing...and if i sent pro mark an email about the situation, you think they would do anything about it? the closest stick i found to it was the hickory rock (747 i think?). thanks

I use Regal Tip E-Series Jazz. They are durable and sound great. I also like the Vic Firth Dave Weckl Signature Evolution they are a bit heavy but they also sound great.

Vater Fusion Sticks
They're light, durable (as are all Vater sticks), and sound GREAT on cymbals with the ball tip (especially nylon).

Vic Firth SD9 Driver...a great drum set stick . I also like to use the HD9 (Exact same specs but made out of hickory) these I could only find online. There's quite a noticeable difference between rock maple and hickory.

Well I withdraw my original answer about the VF Nylon 5As. I tried out David Garibaldi's signature Jam Master model and I fell in love. The perfect feel and weight with a great tip and a little extra length.

I just a pair of Promark Hickory Jazz Elvin Jones sticks. Great stuff. They are really light and yet 16" long and capable of producing a nice sound. I got a pair of Joe Morello sticks (11A) too and they are pretty neat as well if you are looking for something with a bit more weight and still great rebound.

I like a using buch of different sticks...

Regal Tip:
Quantam 3000 wt
Power Rock (double butt)
5BEWide Nylon tip
7B/Bernie Dressel
9A
3B custom cut to 16"

Vic Firth:
Buddy Rich Sig.
Charlie Watts Sig.
5B Original Nylon tip

Pro-Mark:
Rock Knocker (double butt)

On sticks other than the Regals, I use Krylon's "Tripple Thick" Clear Glaze spray on them.
It replicates the Regal coating real well, and makes the non-Regal sticks feel great.

So if anyone likes the Regal feel, but like other sticks, Krylon "Tripple Thick" Clear Glaze works great.

In the US, you should be able to buy it at any big hardware chain, or Home Depot...K-Mart...Meijer...places like that.

I get mine at Wal-mart and it's a little less than $3 a can, and a can will do about 12 pair.

I'm fond of the Pro Mark Neil Peart model (747's) for the harder stuff I play (I mean heavier, not more difficult), and P.M. white oak 727's for lighter things. Sometimes I grab a pair of P.M. 5As to find the middle ground, and when I practice alone I like heavier things for a better workout. I've found that white oak seems to have a better balance than hickory, and also reduces splits and breakage. I need to find something with a ball tip for my own solo music, but havent decided on anything yet.

hey sio_13

Pro-Mark's 808 sticks have a ball tip and feel pretty good.

They come in Hickory and Oak, and the Ian Paice model is slightly longer 808.

The Ian Paice model is pretty sturdy, and get's a little bigger sound from the extra bit of length.
It also seems a little more balanced, because the 808's taper is short, and the extra length evens out the throw.

I now use Vater Stewart Copeland Standards... which are fantastic! Only trouble is they're an absolute ball ache to get hold of (It seems) in England!

I remember using them for the first time at a practice... having previously used Dave Weckl Evolution signature sticks, and Adrian Young siggys (random choices, I know!), I immediately noticed increased response and speed, plus these sticks are great for rim shots (oddly enough!). As a matter of fact, at a recent gig where none of the kit was going through the house PA (even though all of the drums had mics?!?), someone commented that they thought my sticks were mic'ed up when I did a count in!

I use Vic Firth Dave Weckl signatures for my normal playing, when i need to play softer Pro-mark hot rods, when I need to play louder Pro-mark Rock knockers or DC10s. However Vic firth takes the cake as my favourite pair of drumsticks, they're 16" long but are fast and have a great leverage point, when they don't get chewed up as much and when they do it doesn't take a bite out of the sound, and the barrel tip gets great rebound, and I can play precisely or I can play "fatly"? Well I use Dave weckl stick for all kinds of playing: Rock, Jazz, Orchestral, Fusion, Soft, and even Metal.

I'm hoping that my favorite sticks for now turn out to be the Vater 5A's I just ordered. I've been trying to learn with a pair of Ludwig 5A natural hickory that the music store gave me with the drums.

As my hands have gotten more sensitve to feel, I realized that one stick is alot lighter than the other. Really mismatched!

Got the Vater Los Angeles 5A's the other day. These are a joy to practice with. Nice (even) weight, substantial feel, smooth satin finish, good rebound. What a difference a good pair of sticks makes.

I've tried many many sticks. The most durable for me so far have been Regal Tip. I've fallen in love with their 9A. But I've always gravitated toward maple drumsticks. I'm about to look into some sticks that are cheap and in maple because I don't break sticks that often and I get bored of playing the same sticks for a long time. Also, name brand sticks are expensive. I bought like 4 pairs of those Regal Tips and I haven't broken the first pair and it's been like 6 months. But anyways, I've been looking into Ayotte drum sticks and played a few models. They are surprisingly great feeling.
