Default Drums Outside Question

The weather outside has been bee-you-ti-full lately, and I've been wanting to take some outside pics of my drums. But my question is, if it's humid or really hot out will it affect the drum's wrap or the shell in some way. What if it's too cold. What is the general temperature at which to do this. Any info on this is fine.

If you are outside for a short period of time and give the drums a chance to get back to room temp. I don't see a problem. A few hours in the sun or extreme cold may not be healthy.

I had a kit that I left in the sun for 40 minutes for a photo shoot. The wrap got all warped and bubbly. Granted, it was an entry-level kit with the cheap wrap taped on, but still... Choose your time in the sun or cold wisely.

At the very least, they will go out of tune.

This didn't happen to be a Tama kit, did it?

You may have issues here or there, but think about it...a lot of drummers play gigs outside all summer long with no problem. I have played hundreds of gigs, 3 hours long (or longer) with my drums outside, and never had a problem. I generally have tried to have SOME cover for them (a small tarp on poles, something like that), but have certainly played plenty of shows with nothing covering them, and had no problems.

A good quality kit shouldn't have problems. A wrapped kit might bubble a bit, depends on the make of the wrap and how it's applied.

I've seen marching drums that are not much different from drumsets go through snow, rain, hail, extreme 110+ temperatures down to 0F and nothing is wrong with them. In fact our two different sets of Yamahas went through hell and back and are ok.

The shells aren't any different than a drumset on tenors and basses, even the wood shell in a marching snare isn't different...same old 6 ply birch (Yamaha) or maple (Pearl). Same type of zinc die cast hardware.

It's the after care that matters the most. Letting them adjust naturally to the climate, dry off any parts that get wet or any condensation on them, etc...

Except for the obvious ( rain, hail snow) don't worry about it. Like the man said, lots of outdoor gigs for drummers (myself included) and no problems.
