Default Popcorn snare head

What kind of head would be recommended for my Tama (metal) 10 inch popcorn? I've beat the stock one to death. Thanks!

Hey so the popcorn snare is a tiny little devil of a snare so you probably want something a bit thicker than usual especially if you're using it as much as you say. For a really durable and focused sound I would go with a Remo Coated Emperor. Something a bit more open to allow the snare to sing a bit more? Get the Remo Coated Ambassador or the 20% thicker, Ambassador-X. Lastly, if you use this as a main snare and want as much of a deep sound as you can with the popcorn, get the Remo Coated Emperor-X. It has a bloack dot on the bottom of the head giving it super durablitity and focus. It's the thickest head Remo has ever made though so beware.

Happy drumming.

Having experimented with quite a few different head combos for my popcorn snare and then experimenting with others, I'd recommend checking out the Evans Power Center Reverse Dot. It's a great match for metal popcorn snares because it allows the shell to really speak without sounding thin; the body of the drum is still audible.

Cheers!

An Evans Power Center Reverse Dot with plenty of butter.
