Default Question for Bermuda

Hello All,

I watched one of my favorite movies the other day for the first time in a long time. It is called UHF and has Weird Al in it.

Anyway, there is a spoof on Dire Straits "Money For Nothin". It has a drummer all decked out in 80s garb.

I was wondering if in that video, that is Bermuda!!!???

If so, that is really cool.

A great movie for those who haven't seen it.

Mike

Yep, that's me, and a production still from the video wound up in a recent Not So Modern Drummer's "Mystery Drummer" column!

Here's the original pic:

As stated in the article, they're Impact, but I also happened to have North and Staccato kits. The Impact shells don't scoop out though, as evidenced by the tom at the right, and they also have sound holes, which pre-dated both Ludwig's Coliseum snares and OCDP's large vents.

I toured and recorded with Impacts for 21 years, although only for a short time with the concert toms. The shells are thin, so they resonate well and even the concert toms had a great sound, but I preferred double-headed toms which were quite a bit richer.

The kit in the picture is gone, but I still have the Simmons pads (and the whole SDS8 kit) as well as the drums I recorded the track with.

Bermuda:

I have always loved the bizarre and unnatural look of Staccato drums. I talked once with Chris Slade (back in the day when he was touring with Uriah Heep) about his and he was very enthusiastic. I always just loved the fact that the bass drum looked like humpty dumpty's shorts.

Hope you are doing well

Paul
