Default recording with a mac

Hey everyone.

I want to record my drums at home. I have a macbook with Logic studio 8 and i also have some mics. I was just wondering if anyone could recommend an inexpensive, reliable interface to hook up 7 condensor mics to my mac.

thankyou :)

7 condenser mics? How unusual.

I've got a focusrite Saffire Pro 26IO, which I would recommend (the only thing I don't like so much about it is the amount of headroom as the preamps start quite loud, but if your mics have pad switches that's not a problem). There's also a 10IO, which has the same number of mic inputs and the same preamps, but is cheaper because of not having ADAT inputs and a couple of other things.

Other than that, Presonus do some good 8-channel interfaces, as do MOTU. They all seem to be popular.

May I ask what the mics are, just out of interest?

I use a Presonus Firestudio Project 8-channel interface w/ my Mac/Logic setup.
If you're running Leopard, I can't recommend that particular unit; I'm having real trouble with mine, and both Apple and Presonus are passing the buck and blaming the other guy.
It's been frustrating.

It 'works' but generates a horrible crackling sound when monitoring through the Firestudio.
Recorded tracks come out fine, but it sounds bad while tracking.

Might just be a Leopard issue, can't really figure it out yet. Been working on it for several months now...
