Default Ian Froman (The Collective)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pnhJhDYtzME
Here's my teacher's teacher. AMAZING drummer, reminds me somewhat of bill stewart? No, it's just the type of music he plays. Contemporary jazz. He is in the collective and teaches in the NY or Boston area. Incredible drummer!

Gotta agree with you. Sounds so full, yet with lots of space.

HE's got a lot of Elvin stuff happening for sure. I have caught him live and enjoyed a lot.

Ian studied with Elvin and I was fortunate enough to study with Ian for a year when I was at Berklee, which was wonderful experience.

Thanks for posting the link!

Obviously talented drummer. Wish I had his chops.

Shoot me, flame me, but ... Ride sounds bad and also too busy for the music, in my opinion.

I can see where you come from, it is a very dry ride cymbal, but I think it sounds good for the music. Ride cymbal sound is very subjective though I believe. Some parts may have been a little busy, as you said. Otherwise I really enjoyed his playing.

I used to see him around Berklee back in the day. I heard he had no problem telling you your faults pretty bluntly but most good teachers I hear do that. I saw him at Paiste day together but to be honest when I reached out to him he didn't seem all that thrilled to talk so I dropped the conversation after one sentence. Perhaps he didn't really want to be there that day. I was psyched myself being it was the first Paiste Artist day in NYC I was invited to. This years is in a couple weeks.

Ha! Now I am studying with him since late May and it has been awesome..He is a great player and teacher, an amazing teacher. He is really helping me with the issues I went to him for...It ain't gonna happen over night but it will work out over time. He has been a God send to me and we're just getting started! I am totally excited.
