This is the basic idea of what I was playing for the first four measures of the main groove. Everything is swung of course.

Wow, a truly beautiful set, both in looks and sound. I know a little bit about exotic wood sets and you are playing a true work of art. There is no comparison between this and a high-end plywood set - except in price. Staves are the next best thing to natural whole wood and even better in some ways because the risks of cracking and splitting are greatly reduced. Good job!

Hey Rob,
I just wanted to congratulate you on your superb new set of drums. I hope you are not mad by the comments I made on the "stave vs ply" thread. I didn't want to make any sort of negative comments on this thread, as this thread deserves no negativity. I really am happy for you. The drums sound and look great!

Thanks for the closure. What are the official specs on the snare (size/lugs/hoops/reinforcing rings)? In other words, I want your snare drum! :-)

Very sweet! Congrats!
Thanks,
-Ryan

The snare is 5x14 and is 1/2" thick with no reinforcement rings and has a rounded over bearing edge like the rest of the drums. It also has beavertail lugs like the toms and bass but the lugs are just the double ended kind. The hoops are stick savers just like on the toms.

15" Masters Hi-hats - 1045/1270g
19" Antique Thin Ride - 1723g

This is one of the nicest sets I've seen... ever. I keep coming back to this page to check them out again and again. And all the right sizes too!

Fourstrings - Is it "uniques" or "you nick's"?

I believe it's supposed to be pronounced "You-Neex" like "Unique".

Thanks for posting.

Nice drums and nice drumming, too. Love the finish of those drums - a very classic look and a big sound. (Liked the hats too!)

I keep hearing good things about these drums and the gentleman who makes them. I'm going to check 'em out.

That is a damn hard groove to play. Getting those hi hat accents on the off beats sounds so cool. I spent hours today trying to nail that one plus some variations playing 16ths on the Hi hat with the off beat accents. Just feels very un natural to me, but I am getting there. Your kit sounds gorgeous by the way.

I think it's pronounced the same as "eunuchs"... but that doesn't really describe the drums' sound all too well, now does it? That kit looks gorgeus and sounds just as lovely. Gotta love that round vintage sound!

Come now, you can't compete with drum kits. Every kit is just as valuable...

not to bump a thread, but what happened to Fourstringdrums? He posted here so much and now his posts are 'not available' and he is a 'guest'. Has he left us? Never fresh pictures of his drumset again?

To make a long story short (and utterly vague), he was forced to leave the forums after a nasty incident. DogBreath might shed some light on it if you PM him.

I hope one day to have a mahogany kit because it sounds just like all the drums on all the jazz records I like. If I didn't get one in White Marine Pearl wrap I would get one in that mahogany color...beautiful stuff.
