DW 5000's are just great pedals IMHO.

jwirenut,

I know this doesn't directly anwer your question, but (if you can) go and try every pedal you can and decide what feels best.

Good luck,

Since you own a Pearl double, and you ask this question, I guess you're not interested in the Pearl in it's single configuration. Try out as many pedals as you can. Only you can figure out what feels best for you. I play a Yamaha Flying Dragon Direct Drive.

Agreed try all the pedals you can having a good pedal is like having a good pair of shoes you only know what's comfortable for you.by the way I use a DW 5000 because I like DW pedals that why I have a DW 5500 hi-hat also that's personal preference not because it's. DW.

Good Luck,

Just a thought you know you can use that double pedal as a single right? Just take the slave pedal off and use the main one.

Like others have said you have a miriad of options available, Iron Cobra, DW, Yamaha, Axis, another Pearl. It's really just a matter of what fits your playing style and feel.

I am not really happy with the pearl, and not using the slave seems like such a waste.

If I went back to a single pedal it would be simple. The old stand by. The Ludwig Speed King. It truly is one of the best pedals ever made. If you have never played you are simply missing out.

You know, I kinda agree with you. Its amazing how much the world has changed since it was first made, and yet here we are talking about it in 2008!

You know, I'm a Ludwig afficionado and I used to play a Speedking but recently I moved to dw9000 and it changed my life! I would say that vintage is great for the sound but regarding to mechanical parts, it's true that there are improvements these days we shouldn't ignore.

I want to second this statement as well, I've been using speed king pedal and trained myself to play as fast as a double pedal of course its less powerfull and steady, so sometime when i record i'll use double pedal for a better sound and easier recording. But really the Ludwig Speed King pedal IS the fastest single pedal ever made and its unique. Though you have to get use to it cus it stick to your foot and it has a higher angle than normal spring pedal. And don't put it too close to your bass drum skin cus it will scratch it each swing. Also its really cheap.
