Default Drumhead dilemma

I play mostly metal, and occasionally jazz. I also tend to tune my toms in the extremly low range because I like the rumble. But the heads im using right now (clear remo emperors) aren't cutting it. They seem to flatten out and sound too loose when tuned low. I want to hear a powerful loud sound (similar to the sound from Evans Hydraulics). However, I don't really want to use hydraulics because they are too dead. Any ideas for a good head that performs well in the extremely low range?

Jazz and metal drumming are completely different style and require not only different tunings and if you're picky will require different drum heads.

with that said...remo coated ambassadors. A drum head for everyone!

You might want to try a single ply head. Two ply heads tend to sound a little flappy at lower tensions.

Also what size drums are you putting these on?

If too much overtone is a problem you might look into the Evans EC1. One thing I noticed is evans heads have a tendency to be a little more dark sounding where remo's tend to be a little brighter.

Coated Ambs. They'll tune lower and will be louder than 2-ply heads. Plus, they'll still sound good at low volume (jazz) situations.
