Help me out real quick.... My Super 2 w/ studio X ring on the toms are started to wear a bit ....they've held out pretty good, but I'm looking to replace them within the next month or so. If I'm looking for a bit more sustain, would the clear w/ the power dot be a little better (while still maintaining some durability?) p.s. In a rock band....so I need some durability, but NOT the Performance II |

Try the Studio X brand with the power dot. They will be more open than the Super 2's being that the Studio X's are single ply. The Performace 2's are extremly tough but rather lifeless..

Why not just get Super 2s without the studio rings. I had a set a they worked out OK. .
The Studio X heads wear prety fast with or without the power dot. I've tried both.

What are you using for resos? The sustain of the drum is impacted more by the weight of your resonant heads than you might think (more mass = more kinetic energy = more sustain).
I was an Emperor-Diplomat guy and was really suprised by the impact of Ambassadors as resos. And I love my Super-2 X-rings, for the record. |

My favorite Aquarian head is the Texture Coated Response II's, but this may be more sustain than you are looking for. With that said, I can usually tune them in such a way that it greatly reduces the sustain, or, failing that, you could always use a little Moon Gel. I prefer a head that is more open than the muted types so I have more options, wide open, muted through tuning, Studio Rings or Moon Gel. I find the Heads that are already muted to be very limiting so you are pretty much "stuck" with a certain sound........

Thanks all...
Just so you know, I have Evans resonant clears for resos on my 10-12 ...and G2 clears for my 14 and 16 ...and YES,...it works! :) makes the larger drums just growl! I was just thinking the S2s w/ the power dot would give me durability, but not using the studio x ring would give me more resonance. LVDC,...Response IIs,...hmmm, I'll have to take another look there ...... |

I'm using Super-2 coated (no ring) on all my tom batters (10, 12, 14, 16) and Classic Clears as resos. My shells are thin maple. With medium tuning I get a nice warm tone with moderate sustain and no high overtones. I have the batter and reso tuned the same. Just the perfect sound for my tastes.

I have been using the Jack Dejohnnette signature heads on all my drums. Great drumhead!
