Default Drumhead Suggestions

I like to play rock music. I'm getting new drumheads to replace my stock ones for my Pearl Exports. What are your opinions on these selections? I'm primarily interested in Remo heads.

Bass Drum:

Top - Remo Powerstroke 3
Bottom - Remo Ambassador

Snare:

Top - Remo Coated Emperor
Bottom - Remo Ambassador

Toms:

Top - Remo Smooth White Emperor
Bottom - Remo Clear Ambassador

Others have suggested I get Pinstripes instead of the Emperors for toms.

Also, top = batter, bottom = reso right?

Correct...batter heads are the top heads that you strike, resonant heads are the bottom heads which resonate when you strike the drum and as the sound and air move down through the drum.

I'm a Remo man myself. I recently tried both Clear and Coated Emperors on my newer Ludwig kit and I love both. Clear and Coated Ambassadors are good if you want a longer sustain. I wouldn't use anything but a coated ambassador on my snare...they're just perfect...great with a hazy ambassador snare on the reso.

The coated emperors sound great but the sustain is very short...whereas the clear has a more open sound and louder attack...but they also sound *amazing*. Can't go wrong either way for rock...it's all a matter of taste.

Like Zambizzi said I'd go for the coated ambassador on the snare batter and a hazy on the snare side. Also for the toms if it were me I'd go with the clear emperors to open the sound a little I think the coated heads might make them sound a little too muddy.

I've been running clear Emperors on the tom batters, clear Ambassadors on the toms reso side, Power Stroke 3s on the kick, and a coated Ambasador on the snare.

Sounds great on my Ludwig Clasic Maple kit.

I put clear G2 batter, clear G1 reso on the toms that our church has and I have to say they sound pretty good, the Remo equivelant would be clear emperor batter /clear ambassador reso. I put an emad on the bass and I think when it comes time to replace I'm going with a SK1 like I have on my Yamaha's at home. A PS3 would be a good choice for your kick.

I thought that I would never, ever use Pinstripes on a drum kit ever again but I use them on a church kit and they do sound good!

Yeah,

You are getting it OK - batter/reso. Your head choices sound good to me as the pinstripes seem to have a poinky sound to me. The Emperors will sound pretty fat.

before i became real knowledgeable about drumheads i bought some evans hydros for my church kit.

although id never put them on my personal kit they are good for that situation.

so depending on where youre gonna play your head selection will change.
