Default Good drummers in L.A.?

Hi all, my band, Letters Burning, (lettersburning.com) has been searching for a good drummer in the L.A. area with no luck. We're trying to find a rock drummer who's very pop-minded, think Paramore, Jimmy Eat World, etc., more than Avenged Sevenfold, Tool, etc., not that we don't love those bands.

Any recommendations of someone you know, a forum to check out (or maybe we've been looking for you)?

Thanks in advance!

Go to the Denny's on Sunset by the guitar center.
Chances are a great drummer either is waiting tables there or is there right now eating a Grand Slam. He is the guy wearing a Zildjian Tee.

Of course there are good drummers in L.A. Best bets are to post in the various drum forums - there are dozens - and on MySpace, contact drummers who seem appropriate. Try craigslist.com 'gigs/talent' category for the area. Put flyers at music stores in the area you're rehearsing. Place ads in Music Connection, L.A. Weekly, etc. And answer ads for 'drummer available' too.

Obviously you'll find a lot of youngish players who aren't ready (that is, seasoned/experienced enough) to find that good straight ahead energy, they just want to thrash or show everyone their best Vinnie or Weckl chops. And there are definitely plenty of those in L.A. (all wondering why they can't get a gig!) But that's what auditions are about, and it's not always a quick process. As the saying goes, you have to kiss a lot of frogs before you find a prince.

Check the parking lot too--he might be sleeping in his car.

LOL - I hope I didn't evoke too many bad memories!

But yes, the common progression would be:

1. Sleeping in the car.
2. Finding a friend who lets you sleep on his couch or floor.
3. Getting a girlfriend who lets you move in with her.

Not that I would know this from personal experience or anything. ;-)

Nick--glad to know those days are over bro but from what I understand, that has been a rite of passage for many.

Okay, sorry for the diversion--back to the thread.
