Default New Sticks

Hi all. I'll cut to the chase here, Im basically tired of using the same Vic Firth 5A's, they do the job okay but not well enough I feel.

Im after suggestions of new sticks, now please dont just give me your favourite stick but try to aim it at my preference if you can :p

I basically play rock, punk and heavy-esque music. Im not after a huge stick nothing to thick, just comfortable to hold and play with. Something versatile and something that will tailor my playing, any suggestions. Im going to see what you guys give me and then then go try some out at the drum store.

Im open to anything so throw it all at me, any brands, any make whatever...

Thanks in advance,

Adam x

Regal Tip 9A's covered all the bases for those criteria when I felt I need them. Very durable too, in fact I've still got a pair!

Try Pro-Mark 420's(Mike Portnoy) there a little bit longer than 5a's and about the same thickness I believe they only come with Nylon-Tips which is my preferance.I like the feel and playability of this stick and not because it's Mike Portnoy's signature stick.

Maybe you would love the PROMARK Simon Philips sig stick...

The one I love and feel right in my hands are the Steve Gadd signature sticks with wood tips but they are & feel light so it might no be the best sticks for your style of music.

I own numerous of different brands of 5A's.
Although I must say, the best 5A's I play with are... STAGG'S!
They're just awesome Imo, but if you're looking for something a bit upmarket try Dave Weckl Sig sticks, I had never actually heard of him until I tried those sticks.

Have you thought about trying out some sticks from AHEAD?

I personally don't prefer them because they are really loud, but I have a lot of rocker friends and they thank me everytime for introducing them to AHEAD they love them. Hopefully the store you are going to has a few different pairs so you can try out the different models.

IMO synthetic sticks don't. play as good as wood sticks they just don't. have the same feel.

Well thanks for all the advice and suggestions. I went to my local music store 'Sound Control' (a popular chain of stores within the U.K, although not very popular with me, but they stock many brands of stick so thats what im after, okay enough of the brackets!) and tried some out and although alot thinner than my normal sticks I settled on Zildjian Hickory 7A's. The smaller diameter just feels alot better than my V.F 5A's and I feel that I play better and more comfortably with these, anyone else use these? What do you think of them? x
