Thanks...I love it! I've had about 6 COB drums from RB ones to SS ones and now this one which I plan to use lots.
My COB is a Vineyard drum with a few slight modern hardware upgrades like the rubber gaskets and nylon washers, and it sounds GREAT! I'd love a matching Millennium Maple snare (like the one on eBay now) for it..maybe in a few months when I can justify it! Neil. |

Hi guys,
some absolutely stunning kits here, I never get enough of looking at them, I've been following this post for a long time before I decided to post. As for the roto as opposed to a tom it's about the sound, I tune my bass drum up really high (A la Tony Williams "Nefertitti" time) When I tuned the tom to pitch it just didn't have the open sound I was looking for and was kind of interfering with the bass drum sound, Secondly for positioning (but this is much less important than the sound) is that I can put closer to the bass drum without my leg hitting the edge of the tom. All drums are easy to reach with no extended movement from my arms (very important for endurance and prevents muscle strain). Cymbals and cymbal stacks: HiHat side: 14" Bosphorus Master series HiHats 8" stagg DH China on top of a 12" dream Bliss Splash. Right Side: 20" Bosphorus Master Series ride/Crash with rivets 1576 grams Stacks; These change dependent on the gig/recording 8" stagg splash on top of a 10" stagg splash (always use this) 14" Stagg/wuhan/dream china "Lion" by itself or stacked on to a Bosphorus 20" Trash Crash. If not stacked 3rd cymbal will either be a Masterworks 18" thin crash/Ride (very damaged but sounds great), a "Dream Bliss 20" crash ride, or the Bosphorus Trash crash (depends entirely on the mood). Hope that helps :) You can hear/see them here... http://youtube.com/watch?v=kFYtfkdL0AY http://youtube.com/watch?v=CpIiuzSvfsI http://youtube.com/watch?v=fW-3b70uphg Cheers Ric

Ric,
that`s a very cool and "effectful" set-up! What kind of Gretsch is that? Looks really beautiful...oh, and your drumming is amazing. Very creative stuff! By the way, great stuff with Gavin Harrison. Sounds awesome! Karl |

Wow - there are some nice Gretsch kits on this thread - nice going!
My Gretsch kit and a close-up of the snare. Renown Purewood African Mahogany and they sound sweeeeet! Shortly after out-of-the-boxes A few months later I added the cymbals (Istanbul Agop and an Alchemy Bell).

Nah, the original Wrap. It didn't clean up too well, you could see where the lugs and fittings had been, but i dont mind that so much, at least the original wrap made it through. Quote:

Yet another one of these kits!
![]() Great kit, really, for the money. Sounds fantastic! I think it will age very nicely. This was my rig for a show I did called Urinetowne... weird show, but the music is interesting. Very strange arrangement too: Piano, drums/percussion, one reed player, trombone/Euphonium , and bass. Anyway, I'm sure you know the specs on the kit, but if you get curious about the rest, feel free to ask... |

Is that a pork pie throne? Gee, I would have liked to be sitting on one of those for when I played Fiddler on the Roof. Anyway looks like a great musical setup and nice choices in cymbal.

Sure is a pork-pie! It may not be the prettiest looking thing, but it certainly is comfortable for those 3 hour shows!
Thanks on the cymbals- I'm quite happy with my current collection. At first I was using a vintage 70's A Swish that was really green and dirty (really dark sounding), but I needed a little more attack so I went with the HHX instead. I was actually surprised that the book actually called for a 'china' sound. |
