Hey just curious, what would be a considered a high end kit in premier, and what makes high end maple different from low end?

the most expensive premier kits are the traditional/classic series and the artist series. I don't quite get what you mean by high/low end maple. But low end kits which say they are maple are usually mixed with cheaper woods or laminated or not as good type of maple if that's what you mean.

I have a Premier Artist kit and, while I dont know a great deal about drums, Iv played a few kits and this is by far my fav.

Premier Artist 24kick - monster kit and looks sweet as a nut.

Well, The Gretsch Catalina has ONLY 6 sizes, and it's maple "formula" shells, with a natural interior.

Pearl full maple kits (the MCX, or VMX are cheapest, then you get into the maple/mahagony or the premium maple as the most expencive) are around $1500 (although not the best finishes on the MCX line) and $1200 (The VMX is the new vision maple), the premiums are around $2200, and maple/mahagony is around $2400. Your paying for the name "Pearl" to be on your drums, and the over-all quality.

And some "cheap" maple is asian or phillipine or maple/basswood or the laiminated maple, where as "good" maple is from northern US, or nothern canada. Birdseye maple (exactly the same as normal maple) is more expencive, but because of its grain type. Also, it's judged by the shell quality, bearing edge, finish options, hardware, and overall craftsmanship.

So, that's the main differance.

The most expensive Premier kit is the Premier Series. They come in either maple or Birch shells. The maple shells are made in the UK rather than Asia. The bearing edges are more accurate, better finishes and better crome than the Artist Series. The Artist series is lower end mid-level kit.
