Default Drum micing

any one in here mic up there own drums for recording or live shows? I am demoing and i can't seem to get good tom sounds and the snare is all over the overheads. any techniques or suggested microphones for this?

What microphones do you have?

I recommend:

Condensor- AKG C1000 (pair)

Snare- Shure SM57

Bass- AKG D112

The OH is going to pick up the whole kit. You could try raising the OH, and possibly the cymbals as well. It is still going to get some of the snare. That isn't a bad thing.
