WOW, do I feel dumb!! LOL ......I put this info in the MY GEAR category but never here :/ oh well.

Mid 70s concert tom - double headed tom conversion. 3 ply (combo of clear and granitone)....that huge snare is no longer, (10x15) I now have a 402!! :-)

Anyhow, ... 6.5x10, 9x13, -granitone, 14x16 clear , 14x22 virgin - white interior 1969 bass, a "cusp" drum so-to-speak ....enjoy!

I've had these for over a year now and have them dialed in quite well. Wow, what a sound. They sound almost identical to the Houses of the Holy, Zoso drum kit. Big and powerful. They're tuned higher than you would think. The bottom heads are tuned up quite higher than batter heads (a third higher). They sound huge and round and literally shake the objects off of the shelves in the drum room.

Specs are Ludwig 1970, 3 ply with re-rings, clear maple interior, green sparkle 26x14 kick, 14x10 tom (mounted on rail consolette), 16x16, 16x18 floor toms. Coated emperors over coated ambassadors on toms, coated emperor over smooth white front head on kick. I also have a 6.5x14 supra to compliment the kit, but it's a newer one (2005). I like the pics but I like even more the kit!

Small question: how does the rail consolette work? Doesn't it show any problems with such a big tom? I asked myself that question even when I was looking at Bonzo's original kit.

Hi sacco,
I thought the same thing, but surprisingly, the rail consolette holds the big 14x10 tom nicely. It doesn't wobble when played and seems very sturdy. It doesn't really have the ability to place the tom wherever you want at any angle like most modern mounts can, but it works pretty well. The vertical mout slides back and forth on the "rail". It can get closer to the ride or further away. The angle of the tom can be set with a bolt that holds a tilting gear with teeth, kind of like a cymbal holder. You just put the angle where you want it and tighten the bolt. Thank you for the compliment on the kit. I really like it and try to play it out as much as I can.

My Ludwigs! First Ludwig gear I've ever owned and new to me as of this last week and I'm hooked! They are by far the warmest best build drums I've ever played on and they seem like theyve held up through the years especially the 1930's Spartan!

It's a steel shell snare.
By the lugs it appears to be an older Rocker model. The newer snares like this have different lugs on the 5, but these are the same lugs as the Acrolite, and the 6.5 "Chrome steel" shell snares.

Can't have a Ludwig thread without a Cherry/Gumwood Element SE kit! I picked these up new last fall as a broken up shell pack. One up, two down. Very cool, warm vintage tone. Rounding out the Made-in-Taiwan experience, is the Pork Pie brass, which I guess I "defaced" with Ludwig heads top and bottom, 16-strand Pure Sound snares, and orange Ludwig snare cord (the orange cord does make a difference!).

Here is my set of the Epic Pro Beat I received in March 2010. The finish is Mahogony Burst. I coundn't be happier! The sound of this kit is mindblowing. 6.5",10,12,14,16,24. Waiting for the 8" add on to complete the set.

My first Ludwig kit, Centennial Arena in green sparkle, 24" x 20, 12" x 8, 16" x 15, 18" x 16, with the Supraphonic LM402 snare. First gig with it last night and she stole the show. Loads of compliments. Build quality is fantastic (don't believe the horror stories about gear made in the far east).

Completing the set-up this week by adding new heads, Emperors over Ambassadors, and new Paiste 2002 cymbals - 14" Sound-Edge hats, 18" and 20" medium crashes, and a 24" ride. Can't wait - i'm like a kid waiting for christmas! Not a great photo im afraid.

Thanks for the compliment on my Bonham kit. You don't live that far away from me, maybe a road trip is in your future? You can play them first hand and see how enourmous they sound.

I agree with the pic above. Beautiful. That early 70's black beauty is the one to have. They were sweeter then, even sweeter if it's engraved.

Ha ha...you HAVE to play them. No matter what style of music you play, just to feel the power and fullness of the kit. I'm really into the "sound" of drums. That's why I've spent so much of my career studying tuning and trying just about every head ever produced. Anyway, the main reason why I wanted to get this kit and try to copy everything on it as closely as the original Bonham kit was to hear what he was hearing when he played them. To see if maybe the sound of a certain drum (like the kick drum) would influence the way he or I played a lick...know what I mean? I recently added a wooden bass drum beater to the speed king pedal, I read that from his long time drum tech (Not Jeff Ocheltree). It made a big difference in volume, feel and low end from the kick. Just awesome. They're here if you want to play them, just let me know.
