I got it at my local drumshop cheaper than an ordinary PS3. It's an original yamaha part, can be ordered from catalog.

Thanks Scorch!
I threw some clear used G2's I had and played with tuning a bit more last night. Still getting a feel for the range of these drums. So far, I am very impressed. I had really been wanting a YAMAHA kit and got this one on trade for a 3 piece 1995 Ludwig kit that I had, so I am really happy that myself and the other guy both got what we wanted. Lots of great looking yammies here and I think Yamaha's 1978 catalog centerfold said it best without any words. This may be the greatest drumset ad photograph I have ever seen. I picked up the original catalog and have looked at it repeatedly over the years. It never gets old...

My Yamaha Recording Customs. 22, 12, 14, and snare. A 13" rack also came with the kit, but it's an add-on. The 22, 12, 14 all have a satin finish. The 13, a high gloss. Jury's still out, as to if I'll keep the 13, or sell it. Maybe I'll try to de-gloss it. Landed cost for the 5 drums was $995.

My beloved Yamaha Maple Custom in Piano Black...!! 20" BD with 8/10/12/14/15 TTs. I have a Yamaha 8000 snare but didn't use it here - it's a Sonor HiLite.

Not a Custom finish to my knowledge - I believe it was always available but the Black Stain finish always seemed far more common. These are rare though, which made adding toms to the original set a major task...!!

Youre right.

This is my basic setup (Maple Custom Absolute). I also have an 8 x 7 tom, SPD-S, side snare, tambourine, and a couple more cymbals. (sorry for the oddly placed carpets. I had to move everything forward to clear a projection screen after the carpets were already in place)

I remember the red looked amazing in the brochure.... The Solid Black finish I have is from the YESS era though, so not just the very early MCs had this finish.

Hi everyone! Here is my Yamaha kit. It is the Rydeen series, so nothing fancy. I need new skins badly, and I am getting new hi-hats for Christmas. I also have a new Sabian 15" HHX X-Plosion Crash on the way as a result of the 'Buy a Ride, Get a Crash' promotion. Toms are 10", 12" and 14". Current cymbals are 14"Pearl CX hats, 16" Pearl CX Crash, 20" Sabian AAX Studio Ride and 16" Sabian B8Pro Rock Crash.

You caught me on a good day! Groove Juice is the best and works especially well on shiny cymbals like the ozone. Discovering this product almost erased all those bad memories from high school using that messy paste cymbal cleaner messing up my mom's nice towels!

Hey all, here's a little update on the "new" setup (same drums, different layout). I resisted the "offset tom" thing for a long time but finally took the time to move things around and now I love it!

How do you like them? I have the original MCs - they record nicely but a little too heavy to carry around on gigs IMO.
