Nugget,
I think that it would be really helpful to have a drum teacher come to your house and help you set up your kit. I would think that a more ergonomic setup would help your playing. Wayne |

That photo is from 1-2 years ago, when I was beggining to play the drums. Right now my set up is more ergonomic =P My teacher helped me with it btw.

Here's my rig:
It's a 4 piece MCAN with Zildjian A Custom hats, 2 crash (16 & 18) and a 10" splash. My ride is a Paiste 2oo2. There's also a Pearl anarchy block and a tambourine. My music stand is Pier One. LOL

Hello all,
Here are my early 9000's in Silky Brown. It's a five piece, but I'm partial to four piece. I've been gigging this kit for 20+ years. I've included a pic of the bass drum leg mount with the odd tightening nut. the serial #'s are the same type as that sweet green RC kit. I had heard that one of those two letter designations ( not sure which one ), indicates the year/month of manufacture. From the introduction of the line...A= 1st year or month etc. I was hoping someone could confirm this. Great site btw. |

Ok so I posted this thread 10 months ago.....
http://www.drummerworld.com/forums/s...32#post527332- probably not doing that right- but couldnt find a link button . 10 months on and I am surprised on the evolution of my Stage Custom- I figured I loved my kit and thought I would post updated pics! So since the last post there is now a 10 inch tom that came as a very nice clear wood grain. i had to stain that to match the rest of the kit. Snare is now a late 70's Acrolite that was pieced back together from various parts over many months. Gone are some cymbals and have been replaced by Dream Bliss hi-hats and ride Plus I converted my 14inch suspended tom to tom with legs. For once I was able to take a picture and get the nice green wood grain that my kit is made from- every other picture I ever take they just look black! :( So the whole kit is: Stage Custom toms ( all with coated Remo Emps) 10 inch 12 inch 14inch 20 or 22 inch bass (sorry cant remember at the moment) 1970's Acrolite snare with Evans with reverse dot 14in Dream bliss hi-hats 21inch Dream bliss ride 18 inch Zlijian Think crash 18 inch Ziljian Rock crash not in picture 21 inch Paiste 3000 Power Ride Yamaha Cymbal Stands Tama Road-Pro hihat stand Ludwig Snare stand |

Thought that I'd show off my Beech Custom set-up I had put together in the late 90's.
This fusion set-up I was using in a GB band I was playing in during that time frame consists of: 20X16" Bass 8X8" Tom 10X9" Tom 12X10" and 14X12" suspended floor toms. 14X5.5" Snare All Zildjian cymbals as follows: 20" K Custom Ride 13" A Custom Hihat Top, W/older 70's NewBeat Bottom 16" A Custom Crash 6" A Custom Splash 8" A Custom Splash 15: A Custom Crash All Yamaha Hardware, except a Roc-n-Soc Throne All in the beautiful Blueberry finish they used to offer!! This set-up is a joy to play and great for such a wide range of music styles, these beech shells kind of have that old Sonor sound,as there drum were made of beech durning the 70's and 80's. |

Been playing Yamaha since 1982 (showing my age, here). Here are some of the kits I have owned since then. I'm currently working on a black recording kit-last photo. I'll post more photos, when its complete. My first Yamaha kit was a 'Sunset Brown' recording custom kit that I scored in Philadelphia from a guy (in 1982) who had 2 kits worth. Sunset Brown was a custom finish that preceeded the Tobacco Burst type of finish. It had a satin finish rather than glossy finish, and was simply amazing. It was never mass produced, and had to be custom ordered from Yamaha. I also owned an original black w/black edges recording kit, that was Steve Gadd sizes. Another great kit with thin birch shells and fine bearing edges. Unfortunately, I foolishly sold both of those kits years ago and have no digital photos of them. I was the only person around my area at the time who had the 10, 12, 14 configuration. Now, its everywhere. I supported Gadd's thinking that you can get bigger sound from smaller drums, with proper tuning.
Enjoy. Bruce |

I actually found the kit on Craigslist. It was a good deal ($975) for a 6 piece kit plus tom mounts, so I went for it. At first I wasn't sure about the multi-color thing, but the more I looked at it, the more I liked it. I added the OCP snare in a red sparkle, and it's a unique little kit. :) I actually may add an 18" kick with a different color sparkle finish, and maybe an auxiliary snare with yet another color sparkle finish. You get the idea... kind of a jelly bean sparkle set.

I think you misunderstood me... I meant how do you physically get into the kit to sit at it.. it looks wall to wall with no gaps lol

Ah, ha ha... I thought you said "how did you get it"... There is actually a small gap on the hi hat side that I can squeeze into. It is tight though. :)

I know I've been posting a lot of photos of my new kit, but here it is again... I did get maple hoops on the bass drum since these were taken.

Beautiful kit. Are you happy with the sound of the oaks? I love mine. What do the wooden rims give you that the regular metal rims don't? Just curious.

Sweet looking kits guys! The oakies with the wood hoops is droolworthy!
I have finally come to my senses and went with Yamaha for my new studio rehearsal kit. I am getting a SC birch in Natural lacquer, with a Yamaha hex rack. It'll be here Tuesday! Can't wait!

The hoops sound great on the snare, but that isn't a Yamaha, its a pearl. As far as the difference, I don't know because I never even played them with the metal hoops.

Yeah, it's a little tight. The riser was originally built (by myself and a friend) to hold a single acoustic kit for a gig. When I got it home I wanted to cram my e-kit onto it as well. It would've been nice if it were about 6 inches larger on both sides. Maybe I'll make a new top for it one day. Add it to the list of projects I have. ugh. ;)

These is my old Stage Custom Advantage kit in Cranberry Red Lacquer that I sold recently because I got my Custom Absolutes... I'm going to miss this kit though. It was my first Yamaha and I loved it. Just didn't have the space to keep both kits. The kit has fusion sizes with a 16" hanging tom that I added later from an older Stage Custom, but the finish matched perfectly. Oh well, I know it went to a good home.
