Default Found Another Great Head

My new bass drum head came in finally. It's an EQ1 Coated 26" for my Catalina Rock. Amazing, just simply amazing. With the head as it is, you need no additional muffling at all, which is great for a 26" drum. You get a nice boomy sound but it's controlled when you play softly so you can still play tight grooves on a 26" or really kick it and get a "Bonham boom" if you will. The EQ1s have a ring inside the ring inside the head (if that makes sense). I guess I could take that one out and have more open sound, but it would get uncontrollable at times. I imagine these work great on any bass size if they can do this great on a 26". Buy an EQ1 Coated today (it's that frosty Evans goodness)

That's good to hear, because that's been the next bass drum head on my list to buy for a couple of months. I tried an EMAD after not using one for a while, but it's not quite what I want, and it sounds pretty plastic-y especially at lower volumes.

I had the same issue with an EMAD I tried on my Mapex kit. I got an EMAD 2 for it and it's much better somehow. The EMAD2 doesn't have that plastic tone to it especially moderately tensioned.

I have one I sometimes use for the 26 too.

It's not my "normal" head, but it's really nice, and I like it a lot.

Gets that great punch, but you retain the oomph really nicely when the extra ring is off, and you don't need any extra muffling.

I still use a little foam on the bottom of the shell (but not touching the head) to kill the bounce around "hollow" sound from happening.

Yeah, it's a cool head, nice feel....and it looks cool too!
