Default Now I have 2 GREAT Snare Drums...Caution, Drum Porn!

I know that I posted the Ludwig drum recently in a separate post, but I'm just so darned proud of this instrument. The sound that comes out of this drum is truly musical. The classic Ludwig sound cannot be denied; especially the rimshots.

Here I have for your viewing pleasure my new hammered snare and my 28 year old Rogers Super Ten. Both drums sound great. I have the Ludwig tuned up a bit higher then the Rogers drum. I love 'em both. I couldn't tell ya which I would grab if my house suddenly caught fire and I could only take one. Hmmm.

Thanks for looking.

Sweet looking snare drums. What are we looking at here two 6's, two 5 1/2's, or a 5 1/2 and 6? What is the difference in sound? Joey

Ludwig is cool, but the Rogers leaves much to be desired.

Both drums are 14 x 6.5 The Rogers is COS.
Both drums are capable of being tuned in many different ways, making them both versatile. I wouldn't pin down any of these drums specific for one type of music. I suppose that with tuning and head choice, you could use these with any type of music.
I've used the Rogers drum for so long, I've grown accoustomed to it's strong rim shots, good overall sensitivity, and clear sound.
The Ludwig drum is warmer, has a drier sound, and is very easy to play. The drum sounds good wherever you strike it. The rim shot in particular sounds familiar. It seems that I've heard it's sound on many classic recordings of the 60s, and 70s. It's just like coming home. Very friendly drum. I feel like I've gained a new family member.
...no. I'm not nuts. The sound is like an old friend.

The 6.5 Superten is an awesome drum in its own right. Chrome over Steel, with ten lugs, a tighter snare bed that is common, makes for a drum that is highly responsive, very articulate, and it is Loud.

Nice luddy, too.

I cant help it, Im a Rogers guy. And that drum kicks butt.

From the introduction of the SuperTen in 1973 to the demise of Rogers in 1984....... the Dynasonic remained the drum they pushed above all else, I think to their own hurt. The Dynasonic is a great drum...... I have seven of them, Three are 1982-83 XP10 maples, the other four are COB versions from 66, 67, 74, 77. Its a drum you either love or hate, problem is, the first time guys fiddled with changing the bottom snare side head, they couldnt make it sound good any more, mainly because they did not get it set up again proper. So the snare frame is missing on a lot of Dynasonics.
Not so with the SuperTen. The SuperTen was the best production competition for the Supra at that time or any other I think. This is a fabulous drum, I have two in 5x14 configuration, both from about 1976. Big R drums with the R in the panel to the right of the throwoff and the script logo Rogers in the front as in pre 76 oval badge drums. I would love to grab onto a 5x14 or 6.5x14 XP10 SuperTen Maple someday. Or both....... yeah, both. Definitely.
And if you get tired of that 6.5x14 COS SuperTen............. find me. Ill buy it.

Bonzolead, thanks.
