Slick as usual!
Forgive me if I have already asked this about 5 times already, but what are you using for heads again? Ambassador Batter with Gretsch Reso? Are there felt strips on both sides and is there a hole in the reso? |

On the third video you were using your hi-hat foot a lot in between the notes with your hand. How are you seeming to not produce an open hi-hat sound when you play the foot and hand that close together? |

ha, funny, because i thought about the same thing today, while playing this :D. i can't tell you exactly what i did because i, myself, don't know ;). but it's a kind of a beat where you play the foot hihat exactly between the notes played with your hand, so maybe the one thing that can be done is to keep the hihat open as low as possible, to make your reaction quicker... if you know what i mean, 'cause i'm not sure if i'm not already lost in this sentence :P

As always, groovy stuff from you! Really enjoyed the clips...unfortunatly the second one was very short. You grooved very intensely in this one. Did you play with a play-along?
Very nice vids...are you at home again?? Karl |

thanks for the feedback! Karl, i'll try to put up more of this video, the full version is 4 minutes long (i'm playing along to Harry Connick's version of Yes We Can), but there is actually a moment when i'm trying to sing along... yeah... kind of... embarassing, you know? :P anyway, keep your eyes open for some new stuff. i just put one now!
any more opinions? :)

I like it a lot! Btw (and sorry if I asked this already) but do you work with Stanton Moore`s DVD`s? Karl |

not for some time, but i definitely have to get back to those dvd's. actually i didn't have much time to practice lately. i haven't played for about a month, and now i've only 3 hours a week, so i usually try to play along to some galactic, and stanton's tunes, just for fun:). gotta do something with my technique though.

play that funky music white boy.
excellent. i liked the other side of the snare one. i know my bass guitarist would love you. and that's a big compliment. j I've read about the evils of drinking beer, so I gave up reading. |

Jason, i hope that this whole bass guitarist 'love' thing was... umm... not literal. i'm liberal, you know, but... :P.
but seriously, thanks for the compliments man! katman and dea as well :). i'll try to put up some new stuff soon, cause i'm planning to record my kit with a more professional equipment.

Again, I love your videos. But I was curious as to why in all of them, I hear a flutter in your bass drum. Do you lay into the head?

hm... flutter? what do you mean exactly? :P

I mean when you hit the bass it sounds like the beater is chattering on the "bbbbbbbb" and you're getting multiple hits when you only mean to strike once.

If you hit the hi-hat in one moment of time and open them in another moment, you will not produce an open hi-hat sound. If you need to insert a chick sound between hi-hat hits, you need to open the hi-hats on a subdivision that's between the first hit and the chick. So, if you're playing a half-time shuffle (with the backbeat on three) and you want to insert a chick sound on the "a" of two, you'll need to hit the hi-hat on two (like you normally would), open them on the "and" of two and close them on the "a" of two. You'll need to develop a very sharp and precise foot action on the hi-hat pedal in order to pull this off.

aaah this :). i know what you mean. you know i think it's because of my not-that-good-right-foot-consistency :). it happens usually when i play more delicate things, and it's probably about the bass drum tuning also.
i still can't find the something in the middle, between a great sound, and a head tension which is comfortable to play :). or maybe i should do something with my foot pedal? i don't really know, yet i'm trying to get rid of this flaw. thanks for noticing it! :)

You know its good when you bob your head while sitting infront of the computer. My favorite was "second linin'." Gadd feel.
