Default iPod?

Hey everyone. I'm a old newbie. :)
I'm getting back in to drums from a 24yr lay off. Three kids, a divorce, and a lot of other responsibilities had me lay off for awhile.
Well, the kids are grown and out of the house. So I just went and picked up a drum set. Man how things have changed!!!!! Dang..........

Ok, so the question...I want to get something to down load music to, and then play back while I'm playing.
When I was playing before I just listen to my stereo/tape with head phones. so now they have something called a I-Pod?
I just want something that has good sound quality and will hold a couple hundred songs.
Any help would help me greatly.
Thanks
Shaun

Any of the iPod line will work. I use one with earbuds so the volume can be kept low and you can still hear the drums naturally, almost. You can upload your favorite CD's to your iPod. or download music from iTunes, they even have a free one every Tuesday or Wednesday. Even a small one will hold a ton of music...its just a matter of how much you want to spend. I had a 31 year layoff myself so welcome back to drumming and to the best drumming website anywhere.

I've only been drumming for like 1/3 of how long you stopped drumming haha.

Ok ipods are mp3 players.

MP3 is a music file on your computer.

Go to apple.com/itunes to download itunes.

Take a cd from your collection, put it in the computer.

Import it into itunes. Plug in the ipod. Then you can click and drag songs onto your ipod by dropping the tracks into where it says your ipod's content on the left side of itunes.

I think that the new 160 gigabyte ipods are useless. They hold 40,000 songs. I challenge someone to listen to 40,000 songs.

You could probably get an ipod nano for cheap, and it's flash memory so it's reliable.

]Hey, Thanks for the quick response. I just went out and shopped a little and am thinking about getting nano. The only thing that I didn't like is that it didn't have a screen :(.
I didn't know you could download songs from dvd's. Good info. I have some dvd's that I would love to down load eveything together.
I just started looking at all the "stuff" that has come along in twenty years to drummers. My goodness...........
I've got a lot of catching up to do.
I use to use tape and toilet paper to dampen my set. So now it's done with just buying the "right" heads? Cool!!!
Well kinda. Now I need to study the new head materials. LOL....
It's all good. I feels so great to sit back down at the drums. Man what a awesome feeling!!!!
Thanks again for all the help. I feel lost in a world that use to be my whole world, if that makes since.

I picked up a set of rockstars. Never played Tama's before but I sure like the sound of these. I think I made a mistake on the ZBT Zildjian cymbal set though. I love the old Zildjians I use to play. I think I should have held out for the customs. :(

Things in the cymbal world have changed since you were into it. There are a boat load of cymbals made like your ZBTs'.
They are stamped not cast. You have to go with cast cymbals to get to pro level sounds.

If you like the sound of the old Zildjians' you mill most likely be happier with the A s. These are basically the same as they have always been. The A customs tend to be brighter then the A s. Try them at the local music store and see what your ear likes.

You can use almost any head set with your ipod, You may need to get some good over ear headphones to mask out some of your kit.

Oh and welcome back!!

I have an 4Gb IPod nano, i mainly use it for that. put my headphones on and beat some drums, i don't use it to listen music in the street.

The ipod trick works well.
I have a "shuffle" and just stick in a shirt pocket, put on my headphones and jamb.
The only draw back is amplification. If you start playing real loud it is hard to get the "feel"
out of an Ipod without having some way of amplifying it.
Thus my issue. My 25 year old 200 watt pioneer stereo system is too far away from the drums.. LOL.
so i will be using the ipod for practice sessions.

I would try www.macmall.com. Normally cheapest place around and also free engraving of your name on the case. All products Apple at MacMall.

Yea, I like the price of the i-pod "shuffle". But I really wan't to be able to go straight to a song.
I see now that I need a I-pod with a screen to get to the song. I found a I-pod that will do it. I'll just have to but back a little more $$$ :).

Hey on a side note. What type of heads do I need to get to deaden the ring a tad?
As mentioned, I have the heads that came one the Tama rockstar's.
Thx

Try some Aquarian Perfomance II's.
You can tune em loose, or tight.
They will make that rock star come alive.
Yes, I have played them on a rock star.
