dude, that snare is gorgeous.
How are you liking the sound of the copper shell? I've been keeping my eye out for a copper shell for my FFS to see what it's like. Do you have any sound clips of it?

That is an exceptional looking snare! I love the look of copper, I think it is one of the nicest drum finishes around.. So much so that I took my Dave Weckl signature snare and had it plated.. Copper is beaut and yours is a great one!
Also, that Groove Wedge is too-cool as well.. I started using one about a year ago.. Cheers! |

Sweeet, I looked at that snare at the drum shop a few months ago, very nice. I did however get the Marvin smitty smith copper snare for Christmas and love it.
congrats

dumb question maybe... but... what does a groove wedge really do?
Gorgeous snare, I like the diamond pattern. |

That'd be a killer snare - BUT the knurled texture kinda puts me off :S

Thanks guys!
I also have Pearl smitty signature copper snare, and it's totally different from this one. The Pearl snare has a very thin shell and is very responsive. The DW snare is really thick (weighs 8 kgs) and has a ridiculously crack. It's like twice as loud of the rest of the set, lol. The groove wedge mainly change the timbre of the rimshot. I wouldn't say that it's particularily louder than just hitting the hoop, but it has a fatter tone to it. I can really recommend the Remo mechanical noise gate. It doesn't kill the drum as much as moongel does, it just removes ringing in between hard hits and helps define the ghostnotes. |

So that groove wedge...
Is it usually placed where you have it? Can you position it facing towards you so you can get a good rimshot? Oh and beautiful snare, by the way! |

Maybe my poor english skills are complicating matters! With rimshot I mean hitting only the hoop with the stick resting over the drum, not hitting the batter head and rim together with stick in regular position. Maybe I'm using the wrong term here.. |

I would think that fells with wood hoops on their snare would achieve much the same effect.. The term I use for describing its particular use is cross-sticking. Peace! |
