Default Valkyrie Snare drum

I need help. For Christmas i have the option of getting the either the Masai or the Valkyrie snare drum. Considering two things. One i don't care about looks. And two, I don't know what they sound like. All i know is that these drums are all sharp sounding. Any info on these drums would be great.

If so, then why are you willing to pay extra for the Warlord look? A standard Starclassic would sound as good and will be cheaper.

For the price of those... go custom.

I liked the sound of the Masai but couldn't find myself to pay that kind of money for something that was produced by a ply drum company. So, as CrazyHorse stated, I went custom and talked to a very crafty man who goes by Unix on the forums. Check out some of his work and you'll see where such money should be spent.

Oh no... that silly french canadian guy?! ;)

You couldn't have made a better choice. I can promise you whatever you've got him building will be the best snare you've ever owned!

Wise choice young man. Francois will hook you up big time. Make sure and post your drum once you get it.

Agreed. For that much money you could break out of the plywood rut and get something exotic if you wanted.

Well, if he's talking to Franky I'd say ply is out of the question.

Yeah, I can't wait at all, just thinking about it gets me excited. It should look a lot like the one he made for shuffle if you recall his thread on that one, a nice bubinga with black fade very similar to the scheme on the Masai drum. If you'd really like to get a maple snare (sorry for stealing the thread a bit here), you could go for a maple or the extra tasty curly maple from Unix. Save money and get a better drum, no question what the smart move is!

Btw, where do you live? Shipping may be an issue but Francois has one going (or now in) Australia so that really isn't a barrier.
