Default what kinds of sticks should i use?

Im wanting to get into funk sort of drumming and iv tried out 5A and vic furth 5B but i want to find out if i would be better with another style or size of stick. I know i could just go out and buy a bunch of diffrent types but i would like some advice as to what i might look into for funk style drumming. Thanx.

Well I found the only real difference in sticks is nylon or wood tip which mainly effect the cymbals so I say just go to the store and feel a few pairs of sticks and see which ones you like most

luckily sticks don't cost as much as cymbals. Buy a few that you like at the store and try them out on your set. If you don't like them...don't buy them again.

its a trial and error kind of thing.

Check out Dave Weckl Evolution Sticks. They can be used for rock, jazz, funk, really anything. Also check out SD4's. Those are some nice sticks.

I would also recommend Signature sticks from Vic Firth - Dave Weckl, Jack DeJohnette, Peter Erskine Ride, David Garibaldi...maybe the Jojo Mayer, if you like the feel of short sticks. For a more incisive sound, you could also try the Zildjian Super 5A - they're an excellent funk model in my opinion.

If you could, I would check out the Vic Firth American Sound 5A or 5B. Or the American Classic F1. These all have round tips and excellent balance. Diameters are .565, .595, .580. Thats a really versitile combination of stick right there. Or if you want, check out some Regal Tip sticks, in particular the 9A, or the Curt Bisquera Signature stick called "groovers". Both are .580 and i think 16'' length.

Steve Gadd signature stick? That's a fantastic stick, but the black paint RUINS it IMO. Urgh I hate that feeling as if your stick is going to slip out of your hand mid-song.
Harvey Mason sig. stick (Vic Firth) looks pretty good too for funk. I know you're gonna hate me for this, but it is actually another one of those trail and error things with a load of different sticks, until you find the one that suits you. Maybe you could try out the stick out at the store before you buy it?

A few thoughts for ya.
