Google tells me 'Beech has a low fundamental like Birch, but has the projection of Maple' Sounds good! Yamaha make good Beech drums. Sounds like a cool wood for drums.

Beech is like a cross between maple and birch. It actually sounds pretty good, good highs with hood mediums and lows. Sonor and Yamaha make them, not sure of other brands, though. Since beech trees grow rather quickly (like birch) it'll probably be cheaper, too.

Thanks for the replies i would like to lnow about anyone who owns or owned a beech kit, how does he feel about it and to what type of music is suitable for.
I like the combination idea for what i undertood it has the best aspects of maple and birch combined and very few overtones "Beech has the attack and presence of maple and the bottom-end punch of birch. Beech Custom Absolute has the best of both worlds and is the most versatile woods available." from yamaha. here what sonor says http://www.sonor.com/pbas/Sonor_FE/s...297&m5pb-id=nc and here something i found about beech snares http://www.drumsolo.cc/snare_drums/s...ech/Beech.html |

I myself prefer birch shells, but a few kits back I had a 7 pc Yamaha Beech Custom kit that was great.. to this day the kick (18 x 22) is the best sounding kick drum I have ever heard. The toms were a bit touchy about tuning, but once you sorted them out they were great sounding drums...
