I believe I read where Roy Mayorga was the first to have the Rata toms. Dw made his 11x6, 18x6 and 24x6 toms for him and he is credited with naming them Rata's. I'm sure they'll make them for anyone though.

Sounds like something LP would come out with.
Definitely not short stacks! |

From looking at pics of Roy's kit prior to endorsing dw he was using Tama/ octabans. So to keep the same set up he(or dw) designed the Rata toms.

Actually, Ddrum makes drums similiar to octobans called deccabons.

I believe there's another member here who has those on their kit...

The general story behind the rata drums is that they are not DW shells, because for whatever reason, they don't believe in making shells under 8" in diameter. To my knowledge they are Keller shells, that DW fit out with their own hardware and finish the same way they do their kits.
The member on here (who's name I can't remember but monster kit I certainly do) had 8" versions of them made, which were DW shells and were the first and most likely only set of them. |

4x6, 6x6, 8x6, 10x6, 12x6, 14x6, 16x6, 18x6. Collector's. A little warmer than the Tamas. Available from DW. I'd assume any depth between 4 (which will require custom-machined adapters to get the mount to marry to the drum - but they'll do it) and at least 18. Not the most practical thing in the world, but fun. Tamas - and I'm sure ddrums - will be way cheaper. |

I have a set of four, literally picked them up on sunday,
all DW and all natural lacquer, beautiful to play, so went for 6 x 8, 6 x 10, 6 x 12 and 6 x 14, they are tuned perfectly, i have other drums but currently tuned the 6 x 14 to an 8 x 7, making a great interactive set, treating them as an upper rack, to play you wouldn't believe the tonal quality and the set matches the natural lacquer jazz snare. |

as far as I'm aware, the Tama Octobans and Ddrum Deccabons are made of fibreglass or acrylic, whereas the DW are wood. That'll warm em right up!
