Default Another Double bass/Hi hat conflict and DB Pedal problem

Hey guys, I know this is a common problem but I need help!

1. I currently have a Mapex 'XL Forge' P87 Double bass pedal which I've had for about a year now and it's starting to die. So anyone got any recommendations for a new pedal? I'm open to any brand but I'd like it to at least have a beater that allows for soft/hard sound.

2. My hi-hat stand gets in the way of my left foot bass pedal, I can't saw the leg off because otherwise the stand will fall over, so, any hi-hat stand solutions? Preferably Pearl but again, not too bothered on make.

My current (dying) pedal

My Problem:

Just so you get an idea of the scale, the gap between my finger and thumb is about 3 inches maximum.

Thanks in advance!

The Pearl eliminators are a good pedal.

You need to get a hi hat with either a swiveling leg system or a removable leg. I have a DW hi hat with two legs that stands very solidly. (The foot plate acts as a third leg for the tripod base)

I have an old Tama Swivel Foot hi-hat stand, it's an old Iron Cobra, and I saw Mike Portnoy use it on his Purple Monster if I am right, so it must be quality.
I bought it for 30 to make room for my future double pedal

I remember back in the day ;-) on the double bass kits TAMA had this clamp that would connect to the hoop of the bass drum and the Hi-Hat stand allowing you to get a legless stand in nice and tight. I now play a double pedal like you. I actually have both of the stands already mentioned here. I have 3 DWs 2, 5000s and a 9000, all are the two leg type and they work well. I also have an old TAMA with the swivel legs I keep with the kit I use when we host jam nights very Thursday. It works just as well when it come to getting it in tight to the bass drum pedal without being in the way.

If I had to have only one, the DW 9000 is by far my first choice, it is so smooth and solid, I love it

So I guess I am saying go play the stands that are built to accommodate the bass drum pedal and see what feels good to you.

I'm betting that if you loosen the screw on the legs of the hihat stand, that you can turn them so that the hihat pedal is close to one leg leaving more room on the right side of the hihat pedal.

The bottom mounting point will be his problem. Take a look at it ans see if it is a screw or rivet or even a spot weld. you may be able to remove the screw or rivet or drill out the spot weld. Then you will be able to swivel the legs to where you want them. Drill a small hole in the stand a reuse the hole in the collar for the legs, screw in a self tapping screw and you should have it. Just remember the screw needs to be short enough to not interfere with the shaft that is in the tube.

Or use it an an excuse to get a new stand ;-)

Good pedals are like candy everyone has a preference. I have played DW top of the line and Tama. I like Tama Iron Cobras better plus they aren't as expensive. Lots of folks like Pearl. I learned on a Ludwig Speed King. I currently play with Axis Longboards http://www.axispercussion.com/longboards.html and they are awesome. They aren't cheap but in my opinion they are the best. A good music store will have a selection layed out on the floor all next to eachother so you can see how they feel and the see the quality of the construction and check the action of the pedal.

I have done what Gruntersdad suggests on my TAMA hi -hat.

I think you can loosen the nuts and swivel the legs bracket of most hi-hat makes to make that little extra room for the bass pedal.

I quite like the look of DW 9000 or 7000 series pedals, the 9000 one looks raelly nice but its quite a bit of dough. What do you reckon? I haven't tried one yet and I don't think my local drum store has one to try.

the 8000 and is a cross btwn the 5000 and the 9000 (they are dws best pedals). i used to play a 7000, until the footboard broke, and then it kep making this annoying clicking sound and felling whenever i played it after that. its a good pedal. i just think that i had some bad luck with it.

Can't you just swing the problomatic leg of the hat stand over and infront of the db pedal, and have the heels of each pedal form a slight V. Thats what I do, and it works great, no money spent.
